Description

Intercollegiate Athletics, at Southern Illinois University, welcomes applications for a Program Director Assistant AD - Facilities. This position will coordinate the implementation of an effective and efficient ongoing maintenance program for all athletic facilities, coordinate the delivery of necessary support services for public events, and plan and coordinate events to be held by non-University groups and qualified University organizations.

Examples of Duties

  • Coordinate the implementation of an effective and efficient ongoing maintenance program for all athletic facilities to minimize extensive and costly repairs or replacements, optimizing match between facility maintenance needs and available labor supplies.
  • Coordinate the delivery of necessary support services for public events including security, ushers, ticket takers, lighting and stage crews, sound crews and building operation personnel ensuring the safety of everyone in attendance, including staff spectators and participants is of utmost importance. Other concerns include professional event presentation and preserving the facility and its contents from damage or loss.
  • Schedule the facility for qualified University organization using priorities that are established to allow access to as many users as possible.
  • Plan and coordinate events to be held by non-University groups while ensuring the safety of everyone in attendance, including staff, spectators and participants. Other concerns including professional events presentation and preserving the facility and its contents from damage or loss.
  • Assist in supervision of preparation of all athletic facilities maintenance and event preparations to ensure that game facilities are up to standards set by conference and NCAA while also ensuring an attractive, safe and functional facility set-up.
  • Schedule facility usage for practices and competition to prevent conflicts, assure practice times and maximize facility usage efficiency.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory to protect department and university property.
  • Maintain Security System to assure department employee appropriate facility access.
  • Response for the knowledge of and compliance with the National Collegiate Athletic Association by-laws and regulations both those general in nature and those specifically related to the execution of this position's responsibilities. Strict adherence to all applicable governing policies, procedures and regulations of the NCAA is required as a condition of employment.
  • Must have strong skills in supervision, administration, public relations, customer services and event planning. Knowledge of MVC, MVFC and NCAA rules and regulations are a must. This position will require long work days during times of facility usage (often 12 or more hours per day), which will include evenings, weekends and holiday work. 
  • This position requires to be mobile attending to all sections of the facility and ability to withstand long periods of standing.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree
  2. A total of three (3) years (36 months) of experience working with facility and event functions in a university environment.*
  3.  Experience in the administration of NCAA Division I athletic facilities and events.
 
Note:  A Master’s degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.

Illinois Residency Requirement: Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date for this position.

About Civil Service Examination/Testing: The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of application materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, your application will move forward for examination/testing in which you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score.
