About the Job

 

Duties:
Organizing & Managing the Recruiting Process: (50%)

  • Creating, monitoring & maintaining complex databases of prospective student-athletes which could include video clips as well as statistics and communication from the prospect. Expected to balance at least 5 years of recruits at one time. 
  • Create a shared system and spreadsheet that will allow for tracking and documenting all of the coaching staff’s activities with prospects e.g. evaluations, contacts & recruiting- person days.
  • Assist the coaching staff in identifying prospective student-athletes that would fit academically, athletically & socially at the University of Minnesota. Lead in tracking & monitoring high school & transfer prospective student-athletes. 
  • Assign coaching staff to place phone calls, video chat, facetime, etc. with prospects; assign dates/times & locations for the head and assistant coaches to see in person, the prospect –playing on the court, school or home visit. 
  • Create & track a recruiting calendar for the entire coaching staff –During heavy recruiting periods, be sure all coaches are scheduled to be at the appropriate summer tournaments and high school games, on the right date and time & assigned gym, seeing the right prospects.  
  • Purchase summer recruiting packets for the coaching staff.  Designate on what day, what gym, which court the coach should be.  Make adjustments and pivot mid-stream as coaches provide feedback. 
  • Assist Dir of Operations with coaches travel to recruiting sites. 
  • Coordinate with graphic designers to schedule Graphics & mailouts sent to recruits -the higher ranked the prospects, the more touch points they receive from you. Manage transfer portal spreadsheet guards/post/Minnesota kids constantly refreshing the database. 

Coordinate official/unofficial visits of prospective student athletes (15%)

  • Schedule official visits – Book flights/book hotels/restaurant reservations/coordinate staff schedule/Create itineraries/vehicle reservations/facility scheduling.
  • Schedule unofficial visits – Coordinate staff schedule/create itineraries/vehicle reservations/facility schedule.
  • During visits, as a recruiting staff, we will coordinate anywhere from 2 to 48 hours of time for every potential student-athlete who is on campus. Every moment of the prospect’s time at the University of Minnesota will be built into an itinerary to provide the most efficient campus visit possible.

Administrative (20%)

  • Oversee compliance of the recruiting operation in the men’s basketball program.
  • Organize recruiting information for basketball staff.
  • Create a system and assist in loading all personal data including GPA, test scores, address, parent’s names, etc. that come from the “recruiting coach” for that prospect. 
  • Monitor the athlete evaluations completed by the men’s basketball staff.
  • Formulate a communication plan with the potential student-athletes-e.g. a call list of which prospects are called one time a month, two a month, which prospects are called by the head coach or assistant coach and in what order.  Same would be created for visits to the prospect. 
  • Gather feedback from when prospects visit –what were they impressed with, who did they enjoy meeting with, what could make a difference in their decision. 
  • Manage campus visit photoshoots -schedule photographer, back drop, props, equipment/apparel, etc. 
  • Assist in advancing the department's vision and strategic plan and commitment to: Being Accurate; Being Accountable; Being Empathetic; Being Inclusive and Being Innovative. United Are We! 

Social media and marketing (15%)

  • Collaborate with social media and marketing staff related to recruiting, announcements of recruit signings, working on permissible posts for men’s basketball recruiting. 
  • Organize recruiting information for basketball staff. 
  • Create a brand/marketing plan to communicate essential information with prospects.
  • Heavily involved in developing social media material to market the program.
  • Create a delivery plan/calendar to efficiently produce material and direct it to recruits.

Qualifications

 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Recruiting experience
  • Knowledge & experience using excel spreadsheets, google shared sheets & creating powerpoint presentations.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree 
  • Knowledge & experience working with adobe photoshop

Pay and Benefits

 

Pay Range: $120,000 - $150,000 annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience 

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment

Position Type: Faculty and P&A Staff
