    Job Duties 

    Academic Advising Support and Monitoring:

    •  Provides guidance, oversight, and support of athletics academic services staff members
    •  Regularly reviewing student-athletes' academic records, tracking their grades, and identifying potential academic issues to provide timely interventions.
    • Oversees the academic progress from matriculation to graduation of assigned student-athletes.
    • Provides academic counseling to academically “at-risk” student-athletes and determines appropriate intervention strategies.
    • Develop, implement, and monitor creative intervention programs to enhance the development of time management and study skills for student-athletes.
    • Track and analyze academic data to identify areas for improvement and implement effective academic support strategies.
    • Meet with student-athletes to discuss course selection, degree planning, and academic strategies to ensure they are on track to graduate.
    • Manage tutors and work-study students, and coordinate academic support services like study halls, individual tutoring sessions, and workshops.
    • Promotes an atmosphere for compliance by maintaining a working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
    • Stay updated on NCAA academic eligibility requirements and ensure student-athletes meet all necessary criteria.
    • Establishes relationships with professors to discuss student-athletes' academic progress and advocate for their needs.
    • Generates reports on student-athlete academic performance for coaches, athletic administrators, and compliance officers

    Student-Athlete Development

    • Help develop and implement programs for student-athlete personal, professional, and leadership development.
    • Works with campus personnel with regard to transition to university issues, career development issues, and resources available through such services as the Counseling Center, Student Success Center, and Office of Disability Services.
    • Develop and present workshops on career development, life skills, and professional success.
    • Help student-athletes transition after their collegiate athletic careers.
    • Collaborate with coaches to ensure academic and athletic balance.
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of development programs.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred in Counseling, Higher Education, Sport Administration, or related field.
    • Experience in academic advising or student support services, ideally within an athletic department.
    • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations regarding student-athlete academic eligibility
    • Commitment to academic integrity and compliance with Manhattan University, MAAC conference, and NCAA regulations.
    • Effective organizational skills.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively work with students, coaches, faculty, and administrators.
    • The ability to work and communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse educational and social backgrounds.
    • Working knowledge of the NCAA rules and regulations.
    • Seven years’ experience required in NCAA Division I athletics and/or student-athlete development services.
