Basic Function
Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Associate Athletic Director supports oversight of department operations, coordinating various administrative functions to include hiring, evaluating, and supervision of personnel; SCIAC and NCAA compliance; budget management; sport oversight; diversity, sustaining equity and inclusion initiatives; academic success; evaluating systems and procedures; representing the department on committees and at various events; and supporting a team philosophy in the department.
Representative Duties
Management
  • Implement programming to improve departmental culture, with emphasis on initiatives that support inclusion and belonging. E
  • Evaluate Department systems and procedures. E
  • Manage hiring processes. E
  • Assist in the coordination and implementation of department operations. E
  • Provide operational fundraising support. E
  • Manage Cal Lutheran Scholar-Athlete awards program. E
  • Active involvement in senior-level management decisions within athletics.

Student Success
  • Monitor athlete academic progress. E
  • Collaborate with the Director of Athletic Performance and Wellness to create and sustain initiatives that support student-athlete success. E
  • Development and implementation of sustained inclusion, and belonging objectives. E
  • Develop and implement Athletics inclusion and belonging strategic plan.
  • Recommend resources necessary to support inclusion and belonging programming goals. E

Compliance and Governance
  • Provide oversight and enforcement of athlete eligibility, compliance, rules education, and legislation. E
  • Conduct compliance and eligibility oversight for the department. E
  • Develop educational compliance communications for athletics staff and campus constituents. E

  • General knowledge of all areas related to intercollegiate (and recreational) athletics

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination equivalent to: bachelor’s degree and four years sport management experience. Previous experience with NCAA rules compliance, preferably on a DIII level. General intercollegiate athletic experience.

Earned Master’s Degree or Doctorate Degree
Collegiate level experience
Licenses and other requirements
Valid California driver’s license
CPR, First Aid and AED Certified
Physical Abilities
Detect to understand appropriate written correspondence; operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer; communicate to exchange information in person, in writing, on the telephone and by email; stationary position for extended periods of time; move or transport light objects; position self to store and/or retrieve files
Environment
Indoor and outdoor work environment; driving a vehicle to conduct work; subject to adverse weather conditions; subject to evening, weekend and variable working hours
Hiring Range $97,000-$101,500
