Position Overview

Position Summary
Responsible for the well-being of the student-athletes at Eastern New Mexico University. Primarily this involves their academic success but also includes their social development, mental health, and successful retention and matriculation. This position may evolve as the student experience changes and grows and their needs aim to be met. 

Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:             

  • Create and develop successful recruiting, retention, and graduation strategies for the benefit of student-athletes. 
  • Advises at-risk/probationary student-athletes on achieving good academic standing. Works cooperatively with Career Services on student-athletes career choices/opportunities and the requisite coursework.
  • Seek out campus, state, and federal programs and resources that student-athletes at Eastern New Mexico University can utilize during their experience.
  • Provides a broad range of administrative and supervisory functions. Supervises assigned staff, interns, student workers, and volunteers in accordance with ENMU personnel practices including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, guidance, etc. Participates in the process of ongoing personal and professional development. Maintains comprehensive communication among all contacts (internal and external). Models professional standards and ethics in accordance with ENMU philosophy. 
  • Schedule social development skill opportunities for student athletes.
  • Oversee housing for all student-athletes.
  • Manage community service opportunities for the athletics department. 
  • Send out grade reports per term. 
  • Assist with Advising and Registration for New Student Athletes.
  • Assist with Advising and Registration for Current Athletes.
  • Assist student-athletes with all financial aid, scholarships, applications and any related assistance. 
  • Review degree evaluations with student athletes.
  • Correspond with professors about travel absences.
  • Runs oversight on daytime, evening, and weekend study tables and tutor sessions, life skills, and other programs to assist the overall development of student-athletes. Ensures student-athletes are accessing tutors and other academic support options
  • Assist coaches, students and admin with issues that arise daily.
  • Be the department liaison with the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
  • Serves as Title IX resource for student athletes and may serve as a deputy Title IX coordinator. 
  • Game administration duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience working in college athletics with administrative or professional responsibilities. 
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. Must be able to handle multiple deadlines and maintain accuracy. Must be sensitive to cultural differences within the University and community. Must have demonstrated knowledge and interaction with media outlets. Fluent in Microsoft Office. Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public. 
  • Knowledge of management methods and ability to provide administrative guidance within area of responsibility and provide direct training and supervision as needed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively - orally, by phone, in person, and in writing.
  •  Ability to respond to emergency situations in a timely manner. 
  • Ability to represent the department and University in a friendly, courteous and professional manner. 
  • Strong organizational skills to effectively prioritize and achieve deadlines on multiple projects.
  •  Demonstrated knowledge of the day-to-day operations of an intercollegiate athletics department.
  • Strong commitment to integrity.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment, including related university software and email.

Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Work is performed during normal business hours but will include evening and weekend hours.

Insurance for Eastern New Mexico University is offered through the New Mexico Public Schools Insurance Authority. High coverage and low coverage options are offered for medical and dental insurance so employees can choose the plan that’s right for them.



Retirement

Eastern New Mexico University participates with the New Mexico Educational Retirement Board (NMERB), Social Security, and Medicare.

The University also offers supplemental retirement plans. 403b plans are available through TIAA/CREF, AIG VALIC, and MetLife. 475b plans are offered through TIAA/CREF.



Paid Time Off
Full time exempt employees accrue 14.66 hours of annual leave and 14 hours of medical leave per month. Employees must work for the University for three months before they are eligible to use annual leave. Leave accruals will be pro-rated for part time employees. Temporary employees do not accrue leave.



Employee Educational Assistance Plan
Eastern New Mexico University offers a tuition waiver for regular employees and retirees. This program waives the tuition for one course (up to four credit hours) per semester. Employees' spouses may be eligible to use the tuition waiver during any semester that it is not being used by the employee.
