Position Summary:

The Painter performs highly skilled and/or specialized work on sheetrock finishing, painting, and staining work on a wide variety of interior and exterior surfaces and structures. Work is performed on remodeling or construction projects as well as general maintenance of Kansas Athletics, Inc. buildings. Occasional local/regional travel is expected for this position for continued education, training and professional growth.

Responsibilities of all Positions at Kansas Athletics:

  1. Adhere to University, Big 12 Conference, Kansas Athletics and NCAA policies and procedures.
  2. Maintain knowledge of departmental activities, sports schedules and procedures.
  3. Foster cooperative working relationships with immediate supervisor and staff members who work within or outside his/her work unit.
  4. Support the athletics departmental goals and philosophies as described by the Director of Athletics, and work to achieve and uphold the department’s mission statement and core values.
  5. Maintain a positive attitude toward performing job duties and working with other staff members.
  6. Exhibit professional decorum at all times while representing Kansas Athletics, including routine events and meetings that occur outside of the office and on the road;
  7. Maintain the confidentiality of all information obtained while an employee of Kansas Athletics including all private, confidential, or sensitive information and ensuring compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

  1. Responsible for repair, preparation and painting in all areas of athletic facilities, including but not limited to, offices, public areas, locker rooms, team rooms, team spaces, support spaces, and other areas as needed;
  2. Make recommendations on best practices, means, methods for all priming, painting and repair projects;
  3. Maintain documentation of paint colors, brand, sheen, and date for all areas painted;
  4. Maintain reasonable inventory of paint stock and associated materials and supplies to be able to perform job functions;
  5. Monitor annual budget line item for paint, materials and supplies necessary. Order paint, materials, and supplies as needed and approved. Requests for capital outlay to Assistant AD – Facilities as needed;
  6. Work with various personnel in athletics, including coaches and support staff members, to coordinate and perform job functions in various occupied/unoccupied spaces;
  7. Works with the Jayhawk Creative Services team within Kansas Athletics to collaborate on special projects;
  8. Maintain strong relationship with local and regional paint stores and paint store managers to ensure accurate store documentation on spaces and paint information for projects/jobs at Kansas Athletics;
  9. Occasionally assist Facilities/Events staff with game day/event preparation coordination for Kansas Athletics events including set up and tear down;
  10. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics or their designee.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalency;
  • Three years or more experience in professional painting;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work well both independently and in collaboration with staff, and external community department groups, as a team member;
  • Self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to work effectively under multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
  • Excellent organization skills with strong attention to detail and time management;
  • Ability to meet project deadlines with accuracy and quality;
  • Ability and willingness to work an irregular schedule, including occasional 2nd shift and weekends as needed.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates degree or vocational school certification;
  • Experience with commercial painting, exterior painting, or relevant painting;
  • Experience basic carpentry and maintenance repairs, including drywall.

 

Annual Base Salary: $48,000; FLSA Non-Exempt, overtime eligible

Work Environment

This job operates in both a professional office environment and outside at Kansas Athletics related events, including inclement weather. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and various digital devices, including, but not limited to: cell phone, printer, copy machine, and other related devices. This job requires flexibility and adaptability in schedule and the ability to perform job related duties on short notice.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This position may require frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; and working in all weather conditions.

Travel

Occasional local/regional travel is expected for this position for continued education, training and professional growth.

Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work will vary based on the needs of the sports programs and as job duties demand.   Early morning, evening and weekend work is sometimes required.
