Position Announcement

The Operations Lead is involved in all aspects of event set up and tear down at the UCCU Center, Lockhart Arena, and UCCU Ballpark. The Operations Lead works closely with the Operations Manager and the UCCU Center Management team in planning, scheduling, and training part time operations staff. Responsibilities of the organization include setting up stages, chairs, tables, furniture, pipe and drape, barricades, risers, and various other equipment. The Operations Lead frequently directs the team that assembles and disassembles the Utah Valley University NCAA Division 1 basketball floor that also includes professional basketball hoops, press tables, shot clocks, and various other sports related flooring and equipment. The Operations Lead operates and maintains telescopic bleachers including seating, rails, steps, and the mechanical equipment and motors attached to these units.  

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Assists in event planning and the day-to-day operations and functions of the UCCU Center. Assists the operations manager in creating schedules, contacting staff members for shift sign up, tracking hours and equipment used for reporting etc. Attends University and event related meetings when needed. In the absence of the Operations Manager runs the Operations department and staff during event setup, strike, and changeovers.
  • Assists in scheduling and leads a group or multiple groups in event setup for each event to include, but not limited to, all floors, chairs, tables, stages, furniture, pipe and drape, barricades, risers, bleachers, and railings. This includes keeping all areas and items safe and setup to remain safe for all team members and the general public.
  • Assists in scheduling and leads a group or multiple groups in event strike after each event to include, but not limited to, all floors, chairs, tables, stages, furniture, pipe and drape, barricades, risers, bleachers, and railings. This includes keeping all areas and items safe and each team member safe.
  • Maintenance planning and scheduling of all Operations related equipment.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Associates Degree and 1 year of experience in facility or event management. Or any combination of education and experience totaling 3 years. Prior supervisory experience required. Prior forklift and pallet jack experience required. Must be able to lift heavy floors and equipment greater than 50 lbs.  

Preferred Qualifications:
Warehousing and organization skills preferred, but not required. 

Licenses or Certifications:
Forklift certification. Valid driver’s license.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of events and event facilities. Knowledge of leadership and event management
  • Knowledge of the assembly, set up, and removal of a portable NCAA Division 1 basketball court. 
  • Knowledge of setting up stages, barriers, risers, chairs, etc. for concerts and various events.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations. 
  • Knowledge of event safety and standard practices.
Skills:
  • Skills in organizing and directing the work of staff and large groups. 
  • Skills in organizing and directing the work of temp employees. 
  • Skills in self-motivation and self-direction to perform tasks without constant supervision.
Abilities:
  • Ability to complete tasks on time and follow instructions.

  • Ability to manages ambiguity and operates effectively even when the way forward is not clear.
  • Ability to direct work, provides direction, delegate, and remove obstacles to get work done.
  • Ability to operate light trucks, lift trucks, boom lifts, and heavy duty mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to do basic mechanical repairs.
