POSITION: Academic Advisor/Compliance Assistant (FT)
Effective immediately: Full-time Academic Advisor/Compliance Assistant – Athletics - Wilmington University.
Requirements:
A Master’s degree in education, counseling, or a related field is required. A minimum of one year of advising and/or counseling experience in higher education is preferred. Must have excellent communication, customer service, and organizational skills. Must be detail-oriented and able to work with diverse populations. Must be self-directed and able to make decisions independently as well as work successfully in a team environment. Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office products. Knowledge of Banner, CRM Recruit, and CRM Advise preferred. Must demonstrate respect for diversity in the workplace and a commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive work environment that values the contributions of all employees. Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in any situation is a must.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
• Provide individual attention to students by meeting one-on-one with current undergraduate students to provide support with program selection and academic progress.
• Build personalized educational plans for students, outlining the courses they will take each semester until they graduate.
• Interpret policy; explain educational plans, GPA, and academic standing; review transfer credit evaluations, as needed; and provide general guidance on academic matters.
• Provide support with course scheduling, registration, course sequencing, and academic/career options.
• Monitor student-athlete compliance with NCAA Bylaws 14.2-Academic Eligibility (encompasses all Progress Towards Degree; Designation of Degree Program, Credit Hours Earned); 14.3 -Transfer Regulations (Two- and Four-Year Transfer).
• Certify all transfer student-athletes and assist in certification of returning student-athletes regarding NCAA Bylaws.
• Work within the NCAA Eligibility Center Database to:
Monitor eligibility records
Pull official transcripts and test scores for WU
Perform initial eligibility evaluations
• Work within the NCAA Compliance Assistant Database to:
Assist with input of transfer credit data (credits, GPA, semesters of enrollment)
Assist with input of continuing eligibility data (credits, GPA, etc.)
Assist with compiling data for various NCAA reports
• Use the Cognos Reporting System to pull needed reports for data and record-keeping.
• Assist with the notification of instructors for student-athletes (SAs) game/travel schedule and the University’s policies and procedures when it comes to excused/unexcused absences.
• Support the vision of anticipating the personal needs of our students by offering appointments face-to-face, on the telephone, in Zoom, or via email; performing preliminary graduation checks; and providing support to students identified as “off-track” due to missing completion of a milestone course.
• Follow up with academically at-risk student-athletes;
Identify support resources (tutors, Student Success Center, time management)
Implement plans of action for those students to succeed
• Look up applicants and assist with tracking the admissions status of prospective student-athletes (PSAs) and communicate outstanding items to coaches.
• When needed, assist with presentations, special events, and University Open House/Info sessions.
• Attend all departmental/college meetings for Academic Advising and as-needed Admissions.
• Maintain current knowledge of FERPA regulations and University policies.
• Promote and foster an inclusive and diverse environment for all students, faculty, and staff.
• Perform other duties which may be assigned by the Director.
Hours of Employment: Generally, Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. However, the incumbent must have the flexibility with their schedule and/or hours to meet the needs of the department and/or the University. The incumbent may work a combination of day and evening hours, and weekends at times.

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience.
