Job Description

The Academic Advisor III, is part of the Advising Services team and is expected to assist in all advising and registration activities of Advising and Transfer Services. This adviser will serve as the athletic liaison and assume primary responsibility of regular communication to athletic department administrators/coaches and all student athletes. Primary case load (250-300 students) will include students who have been admitted on conditional standards and/or on academic probation. Develop remediation plans, collaborate with other academic support departments for identified students, and facilitate assessment of programming provided. This adviser will serve as the Hub manager and coordinate hiring, on-boarding, and continued professional development events. Must be able to travel and work a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends.

Responsibilities:

• Provides academic advice and guidance to students. Advises students with academic, probationary, and financial concerns and determines possible courses of action.
• Submits course substitutions, add/drops, and change of curriculums.
• Approves, establishes, and monitors student probationary terms.
• Develops remediation plans and efforts to assist at-risk student populations.
• Includes collaboration with departments across campus to connect students to appropriate services.
• Assessment of programming and retention of identified student population
• Serves as athletic liaison; provides monthly communication to athletic department and personnel.
• Prepares academic and advising reports for assigned cohort.
• Develops and revises informational material, handbooks, and newsletters.
• Develops and presents training materials and programs for SSC Hub Student employees.
• Manages hiring, onboarding, and continued training.
• Manages electronic message boards in SSC, develops marketing graphics for Advising & Transfer Services, and coordinates with other departments in SSC for Buffalo Round-Up/Discover WT events.
• Other duties as assigned.

Necessary Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience
• One year of related experience in advising and recruiting.
• Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with administrators, faculty, students and parents.
• Ability to present information clearly and concisely.
• Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
• Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in using Excel, Word, and database applications.
• Experience with academic advising student-athletes and understanding of NCAA academic requirements as it applies to University core curriculum and degree requirements
• Will assist with all new student orientations and prospective visits for student athletes.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree Preferred
• Four years of related experience in academic support for secondary and/or college-level students.
• Gallup Strengths coach, career coaching and/or familiar with learning and career assessment tools.
• Experience with graphic design tools.
• Understanding of TSI, developmental education in higher education, use Datatel-Colleague student database system.
• Familiar with developing academic remediation plans for at-risk students
• Experience with Advisor Trac or similar information system.
• Skills in developing publication pieces to deliver key dates and relevant topics to student-athletes and athletic personnel.
