Under general supervision, Academic Certifying Officer is responsible for working to develop and manage the athletic certification and education program in accordance with federal, state, university, NCAA and SWAC requirements. Assists with the certification of accurate Academic Performance Program data, and the certification of progress toward degree requirements as required by NCAA legislation. Ensures the compliance of all academic regulations relating to student-athletes.
Assists with the development and implementation of a comprehensive certification and academic performance program. Responsible for maintaining current information on NCAA/APP/SWAC rules and bylaws. Ensures that adherence to NCAA/APP/SWAC certification requirements are addressed and carefully monitored. Collaborates with Athletics to determine the initial eligibility and continuing eligibility of student athletes and prospective student athletes. Ensures that activities are in compliance with NCAA/APP/APD/SWAC regulations. Coordinates the review of transcripts and eligibility requirements for student athletes with the Office of Admissions. Creates and implements processes and procedures in the areas of eligibility certification, financial aid, recruitment, and self-reporting violations in relation to eligibility issues. Serves as point of contact with the appropriate eligibility clearinghouse(s) and coordinates the listing and submission of students requiring certification. Regularly reviews eligibility and satisfactory progress towards graduation, in collaboration with the academic advising units. Assists with activities involved in self-study for athletic certification. Serves on the Athletic Compliance and Academic Strategic Planning committees. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of: Policies, procedures, and practices. Must abide by and comply in all respects with the constitution, bylaws, rules, regulations, advisory opinions, and interpretations, as amended (collectively “Rules and Regulations”) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Rules and Regulations of the SWAC relating to the conduct and administration of University’s Intercollegiate Athletics Department. In the event employee becomes aware, or has reasonable cause to believe, that a violation of NCAA or Conference Rules and Regulation or University policies and procedures may have taken place, shall promptly report such violations or suspected violations to the Athletic Director.
