ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Student Success division at the University of South Florida, is comprised of 60 departments, providing students with academic support, engagement opportunities, health & wellness services and enhancement of the educational experience.
The Academic Services team, which has a dual report to Undergraduate Studies and Athletics, provides services, programming, functions and outreach for USF student-athletes that results in satisfactory academic progress and graduation of student-athletes. Academic Services maintains a staff of 13 full-time employees, a team of 4-5 post-baccalaureate interns and a full complement of tutors and mentors (OPS students) to serve a community of approximately 500 student-athletes representing 19 NCAA Division I sport programs.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Academic Coordinator in Undergraduate Studies/Academic Services in Athletics is responsible for the planning, implementation and evaluation of academic support programming and academic progress monitoring for an assigned student-athlete caseload. This position provides personalized academic advising to student-athletes, addressing their unique academic needs, goals, and challenges. The Academic Coordinator also collaborates closely with coaches, faculty, administration, and other university departments to ensure that student-athletes receive comprehensive academic guidance and support throughout their collegiate careers. This position will report to an Assistant Director of Academic Services and must adhere to all NCAA, Conference, and University rules and regulations.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Academic Support:
-Responsible for proactive and strategic planning involving academic support of new and continuing student-athletes.
-Supervise and conduct structured academic support sessions.
-Provide consistent follow-up via electronic communication to faculty in request of grade status and attendance information.
-Facilitate tutorial appointment requests.
-Provide detailed and timely grade reports and updates on the academic progress of assigned student-athlete caseload.
-Conduct regular meetings with coaches and applicable administration.
-Meet with prospective student-athletes and their families to discuss academic support and services at USF.
-Provide structured academic support while traveling with assigned teams during irregular business hours of operation.
Advising and Academic Planning:
-Assist new and continuing student-athletes with course selection, ensuring compliance with NCAA, Conference, and University policies and regulations.
-Maintain accurate and up-to-date degree plans and graduation plans.
-Collaborate with campus partners to identify and address scheduling and registration barriers.
Reporting, Eligibility and Certification:
-Responsible for monitoring and tracking continuing eligibility for assigned student-athlete caseload, including management of applicable reports.
-Create and distribute of End of Semester report for assigned sports.
-Complete and maintain applicable eligibility reports.
-Confirm and distribute transfer assessments completed by Assistant University Registrar.
-Collaborate with Athletics Compliance and University Registrar's Office in support of the Athletics certification process.
Committees and Program Administration:
-Represent Academic Services in meetings and on select committees across UGS and campus.
-Serve as liaison for International Student Services.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Counseling or academic field directly related to the Advisor's specific responsibilities with a minimum of one year of experience in advising or related academic functions within higher education.
FLSB1310 Equivalency:
4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree.
6 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for master's degree.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree in Education, Counseling or academic field directly related to the Advisor's specific responsibilities. Experience working with student-athletes, coaches, support staff and administration in an intercollegiate athletics department at the Division I level; experience utilizing Teamworks/Retain.
