Job Overview
Consistent with Georgetown University’s Academic Resource Center (ARC) commitment to the comprehensive development of the student, the Academic Specialist serves as the primary academic coordinator for Georgetown’s Men’s Basketball program.
They strengthen the University’s academic support network by providing academic coaching to student-athletes to become student-centered learners and to enhance their academic performance, while also providing additional administrative support to the ARC’s disability compliance operation.
On a daily basis, they balance potentially inconsistent priorities regarding academic and athletic achievement in a highly competitive academic and athletic institution.

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation
Reporting to the Executive Director of the Academic Resource, the Academic Specialist is a member of a professional staff of twelve; they develop, implement, deliver and evaluate academic programs for players on the Men’s Basketball team.
They routinely interact with senior administrators in the Athletic Department, across the different schools, the President’s and the Provost’s Office, and programs regarding student-athlete welfare, development, and support.
As well, they divide time with and among the ARC’s Learning and Disability staff, regularly interacting with students, parents, and academic deans.
