Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Under the direction of the director of the Office of Student Success, oversees, plans, organizes, administers, and directs the academic support services for student-athletes in order to maintain national, conference, and institutional eligibility.
Provides direction, counsel, and mentorship to student-athletes for specific issues impacting academic success and direction; meets regularly with student-athletes to address issues such as academic performance, time management, goal setting, career planning, learning and study strategies, test taking, note taking, and other skills necessary for academic success.
Supervises coordination of study tables.
Hires, trains, and supervises study table monitors.
Serves as liaison and advocate regarding academic issues for student-athletes and university constituents, including the Dean of Students.
Helps students resolve registration conflicts, course withdrawals and adjustments, changes of major, deficient grades, and instructor conflicts.
Maintains communication with faculty and staff in providing support for students' needs.
Coordinates support with university academic resources to enhance the student-athlete experience.
Becomes proficient in NAIA initial and continuing eligibility standards for student-athletes; acts as a liaison between the Athletic Department and the Registrar's office to maintain eligibility regulations.
Communicates important dates, deadlines, and requirements to student-athletes.
Provides information for faculty and advisors regarding specific student-athlete academic progress issues and reporting.
Monitors and records progress of individual students, maintaining consistent, accurate, and confidential records of student data.
Communicates athletics practice schedules to academic advisors.
Meets with prospective student-athletes and families during official and unofficial visits to campus and inform on academic policies and support services. For prospective transfer student-athletes, acquires program completion plan from academic advisor to determine transfer credit application and time remaining for eligibility and program completion.
Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of events, programs, and resources that support student-athletes, particularly related to life skills and their overall growth and development.
Develops and implements effective communication plans using a variety of software programs.
Serves as the office lead for programming related to a designated student population, such as international students.
Assists with events for potential students and current students in IU East degree programs.
Develops and maintains collaborative partnerships with faculty and various campus partners including academic advising, career services, campus life, and financial aid.
Actively participates on various committees as requested, including the Athletics Committee.
Represents IUE, IUE Athletics, and the IUE Office of Student Success at local, state, and national meetings, conferences, and in professional associations, as requested.
General Responsibilities
Develops and implements programs and initiatives that offer support for students in crisis, facing adversity or challenges, or who belong to an under-represented or minority student population.
Interfaces directly with students by attending student programming events, advising student organization leaders, meeting 1-on-1 to discuss support needs, and gathering satisfaction feedback from student participants to implement into future student services initiatives and objectives. Places an emphasis on confidentiality of student concerns, university policy compliance, and a culture of care within all direct student interactions.
Collaborates with staff in own department and other departments, as well as academic and campus leaders, on shared student support goals, often coordinating funding to sponsor student programs and initiatives.
Projects outcomes for support services offered at the program, department/division, or campus level. Measures and evaluates effectiveness of student support initiatives against projected outcomes; regularly prepares reports on impact to students and budget and may present to stakeholders on effectiveness and to secure funding for initiatives moving forward.
Serves on committees and performs student support research across the field of higher education and at peer institutions to identify and recommend best practices.
Plans and coordinates communications for student support initiatives to ensure student participation, inclusion, and engagement.
May provide guidance to other student support staff; makes process recommendations to manager for improved delivery of service.

EDUCATION
Required
Bachelor's degree in education, public affairs, public health, counseling, social work, business, or related field
Preferred
Master's degree in higher education student affairs or related field

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
