The Department of Athletics is seeking an hourly Academic Wage: Assistant Athletic Trainer. This is a part-time (0.50 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term position. This position is anticipated to last approximately three months.**
This position is being filled on a temporary basis to cover while an employee is on protected leave. The position is anticipated to end on April 6, 2026, or upon return of the on-leave employee. This position does not carry an expectation of continued appointment to the position or continued employment at Oregon State University.

An Assistant Athletic Trainer 2 position typically demonstrates expanding basic knowledge and skill in standard prevention, emergency care, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation techniques. This position follows standard principles and uses appropriate medical terminology, participates as a team member in a collaborative environment, actively contributes to completion of team goals and assigned tasks, and clearly communicates in written and verbal form. The Assistant Athletic Trainer complies with and has basic knowledge of policies and procedures, and refers to supervisors for policy and procedure related decisions. This position typically works under direct supervision using established procedures and protocols, and follows recommended approach to assigned work to facilitate achievement of desired results.

55% SPORT COVERAGE
Provides coverage of Oregon State University athletic teams as assigned. Provides athletic training services to physically active individuals within the athletic department. Facilitates and implements all aspects of health care for assigned team, including but not limited to: prevention, practice/event coverage, injury evaluation, physician referral, medical appointments, treatment and rehabilitation and team travel. Responsible for activating the Emergency Action Plan for sports/venues as assigned. Interacts with persons under 18 years of age in a one-on-one setting
20% ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
Maintains proper medical records in accordance with all government and university guidelines. Adheres to existing University and appropriate external regulatory agency (i.e. NATABOC, OHLA, NCAA) guidelines and safety policies. Completes appropriate paperwork, including but not limited to: incident or injury reports for departmental accountability. Responsible for Athletic Training Department subcommittee work and administrative duties as assigned.
10% SUPERVISION
Provides leadership, supervision, direction, and mentorship for assigned athletic training students. Plans, assigns and reviews student work. Establishes goals for each student and assesses performance through completion of evaluations. Disciplines or effectively recommends discipline up to and including dismissal. Acts as a mentor to athletic training fellows.
10% COMMUNICATION
Responsible for and building skill-set in basic day-to-day communication (including participation status) with athletes, coaches, strength & conditioning staff, physicians and other members of the sports medicine team.
5% CONTINUING EDUCATION / PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Earns and maintains appropriate professional certifications. Displays a willingness to learn and be exposed to advanced topics and skills within the field of athletic training. Stays current in related research and trends. Seeks to expand working knowledge.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
