The University of Oregon Intercollegiate Athletic Department's primary purpose is to provide a unique opportunity for student-athletes to be developed, tested, and encouraged to reach their maximum potential in every aspect of their lives. The department has approximately 280 administrative & classified employees and hosts over 600,000 spectators annually and represents the University of Oregon in athletic competition with other universities & colleges.
The Accountant 1 position will provide accounting services to the University of Oregon Athletics Department (AD), including but not limited to management of deposit processes, operating and general ledger accounts, AD cash vaults, account reconciliation, and monitoring of debit/credit balances in critical accounts. This position will also perform critical contracting duties and will manage the department’s procurement card program, with administration, reconciliation, and reporting duties.
Reporting to the Assistant Athletic Director for Business Operations, this position is an integral part of the Athletics Business Office team and will independently manage several core accounting and business processes, while acting as a direct point of contact with personnel and budget managers representing more than three dozen sport and administrative units across the department. This position contributes to the department’s mission and direction by ensuring accurate accounting practices and reporting capabilities, facilitating contracts from inception to payment, and creating solutions to increase efficiencies throughout the department’s business operations.
• Bachelor's degree with CPA or PA certificate; OR
• Bachelor's degree with 30 quarter (20 semester) hours of college-level Accounting, OR
• 30 quarter (20 semester) hours of Accounting courses and three years of Accounting experience.*
• Transcripts must be submitted for all required and/or related courses. All courses must be from accredited colleges, universities, or private vocational schools.
*Accounting experience must include at least 3 of the following:
• Preparing transactions to be recorded in records of original entry;
• Preparing journal entries, posting from journals to general ledger, or preparing original general ledger entries;
• Summarizing data from a ledger to a trial balance;
• Closing accounts at the end of an accounting period;
• Applying PC spreadsheet, database, and word processing software;
• Processing data using a computer.
