| Job Summary / Basic Function |
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Adaptive Athletic Program (AAP) coach is responsible for: coordinating all aspects of the AAP program(s); on-site conduct of all players on the day of the contest and during travel to and from contests; the scouting of opponents; all State funds involved with AAP; organizing and attending all practice sessions and the conduct of athletes at these sessions; following all Conference and University rules and guidelines; coordinating all recruitment for the co-ed AAP; fundraising and other athletically related duties as assigned by the supervisor. This position will work a modified schedule from about November 1 through April 1 each year to accommodate the AAP season competitive schedule, Tuesday through Saturday. Out of season, the regular work schedule will resume Monday through Friday with occasional nights and weekends.

• Schedule facilities, practices, contests, and officials and makes all necessary travel arrangements for the AAP.
• Make all travel arrangements for the AAP.
• Adhere to all budgets allocated by the department.
• Participate in all departmental fundraising activities and meetings.
• Provide athletics compliance officer with all necessary documentation in determining eligibility of student athletes.
• Produce all print and electronic promotional materials for AAP and report all results to the sports information director and/or communications staff.
• Produce all media information and game programs with the assistance of the sports information and communications offices.
• The coach will conduct his/her team and himself/herself appropriately. It is essential that each coach set a standard for behavior for the participants. Athletes should be informed as to regulations and expectations by the coach. Any problems or unusual occurrences are to be reported to the supervisor.
• Collaborate with university offices including Admissions, Financial Aid, and the Office for Services with Disabilities to facilitate student identification, accommodations, and enrollment.
• Coordinate with the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (or other related associations) on all university event sanctioning and high-performance activities.
• Follow all best practices/sport safety policies in accordance with athletic training and strength and conditioning policies.
• Monitor and facilitate academic progress and support in collaboration with athletic study tables, Office for Students with Disabilities, and the Academic Success Center. Maintain team academic eligibility with a minimum 70% of roster.
• Work with Advancement and the Office for Students with Disabilities to secure grant opportunities, scholarships, and philanthropic gifts to support the team.
• Supervise volunteer coaches and work study staff for the wheelchair basketball program.
• Coordinate all recruitment for AAP and maintain a minimum roster size of twelve student-athletes during the season.
• Plan, promote, coordinate, and implement at least one AAP summer camp each fiscal year.
• Should the roster size drop below the program minimum of twelve, the AAP program’s coach will assist in promoting, developing, and implementing (see attached) summer athletic camps of all types as assigned by the supervisor.
• Coordinate and assist Campus Recreation and the Office for Students with Disabilities to support the wheelchair basketball program and develop new/additional adaptive athletic programs as needed. | | Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities | | | Minimum of Education / TrainingRequired Education Summary |
  
• Bachelor’s degree in Adaptive Athletics, Sports and Recreation Management, or Related field
• 2 years experience in Adaptive Athletics or Related Field
