The Bentley Historical Library (BHL) seeks an enthusiastic, collaborative, and innovative archivist to document and preserve the history of athletic competition at the University of Michigan.
Under the general supervision of the Bentley's Assistant Director and Archivist for University History, the Athletics Archivist is responsible for building, maintaining, preserving, promoting, and providing access to athletic-related archival content, in a variety of formats, chronicling the history and development of athletic competition and the administration of athletics at Michigan.
The Bentley Library collects and makes available material about athletics ranging from student- managed teams in the 19th century to today's current Athletic Department and dedicated athletic facilities. Since 1990, the Bentley Library has partnered with the Athletic Department to develop one of the most comprehensive archives of collegiate athletics publicly available anywhere.
You will also support and participate in the general work of the university archives including field work, general historical inquiries, instructional support, reference, and outreach.

Reporting Structure:
This position reports to the Assistant Director and Archivist for University History, who reports to the Director.
Supervisory Responsibility:
May supervise temporary/hourly assistants, interns, or volunteers.
The Bentley Historical Library collects the materials for and promotes the study of the histories of two great, intertwined institutions, the State of Michigan and the University of Michigan. Appointment is anticipated at the Assistant, Associate, or Senior Associate rank. Salary and rank are dependent on your qualifications and experience. The target salary for this position is $58,000 for the Assistant Archivist rank, $64,000 for the Associate Archivist rank, or $68,000 for the Senior Associate Archivist rank.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, on behalf of their Librarian, Archivists, and Curator bargaining unit (LEO-GLAM), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
