This position is a full-time internship intended to provide hands-on experience and prepare individuals to perform at a high level in full-time positions in academic support for student-athletes following the internship. The NC State Academic Support Program for Student-Athletes Internship Program has existed since 2005 and was recognized as the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A) Model Practices Award winner in 2013.Abilities/Skills: Must be able to navigate and adapt in a fast-paced, intense environment with many moving parts. Must be able to problem-solve, make quick ethical and policy-based decisions, and meet deadlines for multiple tasks and supervisors. Must have high ethical standards and impeccable personal and professional integrity. Must have excellent written, verbal, analytical, and listening skills. Must be able to effectively communicate task and internship-related needs to primary and secondary supervisors and other staff members. Must be able to work independently and as part of a collaborative team. Must have computer software application skills to develop written reports. Must be attentive to detail and accurate in record keeping. Must be able to teach academic success strategies. Must have conflict management and interpersonal skills that maximize success in communicating with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including at least 1-2 evenings per week and most Sundays during the semester. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Supervise and monitor student-athletes, tutors, and mentors in daytime and evening structured study hall environments, including individual study and tutor sessionsFacilitate the creation and regular updating of multiple administrative reports, including academic update reports (AURs), structured study hall attendance, and daily reports related to student academic progress and behaviorWork closely with tutorial and mentoring program staff to set up and oversee group and one-on-one tutorial and mentoring sessions based on student-athlete performance and requests, including daily changes to student appointmentsDetermine the academic support needs of an assigned group of student-athletes through regular one-on-one academic meetings and keep accurate records of grades reportedCo-teach University Studies Courses (USC), which are designed to support first-year student-athletes in their transition from high school through the first year of college studiesAssist in the day-to-day operation of at least one auxiliary area, including class attendance policy and USC curriculumAssist in engaging student-athletes in the course selection and registration processDesign and present training to tutors and mentors on topics related to increasing effectiveness in working with studentsParticipate in staff training and mandatory orientations on a variety of subjects related to academic support, including APR/eligibility, registration advising, and recruitingAssist with presentations made to prospective student-athletes during on-campus visitsComplete special projects as assigned

Requirements and Preferences
Full time internship: January 22, 2024 - June 30, 2024
Must have completed a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from an accredited college or university, or must have completed all required coursework for master’s degree pending completion of an internship.
Must have a minimum of six months of experience supervising young adults in an educational setting.
Preference will be given to those who have: Completed a master’s degree in the fields of education, higher education administration or leadership, college student personnel, psychology, sociology, and/or sport management One year of work experience in an academic support for athletics setting A sincere interest in athletic academic counseling as a profession Basic knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations, particularly in the areas of initial and continuing eligibility
