Job Summary

The Assistant Athletics Director for Strategic Communications is responsible for leadership of the department's communication functions which include, but is not limited to: branding, messaging, web content management, social media, media relations, marketing and public relations.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a public relations agent for the department by developing positive relationships with media representatives from various media outlets utilizing traditional sports information and new media avenues.
• Prepare media releases for local, state, regional and national newspapers, magazines, radio and TV stations and social media sites. Work proactively with media to encourage coverage of college athletics events, news feature stories.
• Maintain the athletics website and social media outlets with current and relevant information using video, audio and other produced assets.

Job Summary

The Assistant Athletics Director for Strategic Communications is responsible for leadership of the department's communication functions which include, but is not limited to: branding, messaging, web content management, social media, media relations, marketing and public relations.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a public relations agent for the department by developing positive relationships with media representatives from various media outlets utilizing traditional sports information and new media avenues.
• Prepare media releases for local, state, regional and national newspapers, magazines, radio and TV stations and social media sites. Work proactively with media to encourage coverage of college athletics events, news feature stories.
• Maintain the athletics website and social media outlets with current and relevant information using video, audio and other produced assets.
• Collaborate with the university Marketing and Communications staff on select releases, promotions, publications, photography and video needs.
• Oversee the production of high quality publications and other game-day and season materials.
• Oversee the management of the press box and/or designated media area for sporting events.
• Oversee the management of capturing and compiling statistical data and live stats.
• Stay current with NCAA, SIAC and PBC sport statistics software as stat formats are upgraded and applications are modified.
• Process statistical information and reporting to the NCAA, SIAC and PBC for pre-season and post-season recognitions for student-athletes, coaches and teams.
• Be intentional in enhancing social media platforms while utilizing hashtags, picture and video content to grow exposure.
• Create a student intern / work study program to assist with athletics strategic communications.
• Ensure workers are hired and assigned to cover various game management functions required for each sporting event such as public address announcer, music, scoreboard, bookkeeping, live stats, live audio and/or video streaming, social media and other functions.
• Oversee unit budget to ensure fiscal integrity of the department.
• Coordinate special athletic events as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
• Research historical information for all-time players/teams, hall of fame and jersey retirement consideration.
• Work with head coaches on tasks relevant to the position and promoting all aspects of their programs.
• Ensure compliance with all NCAA, University, University System of Georgia and conference rules and regulations in all areas of responsibilities (particularly in dealings with National Letter of Intent signings).
• Perform other duties assigned by the Director of Athletics

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree

Three (3) years of work experience in college athletics or relevant field

Preferred Qualifications

Strong writing ability and communication skills
Experience with website content and social media management
Experience with publication development
Demonstrate knowledge of graphic design and video production
Sidearm Sports Experience
Experience with video streaming and radio / audio streaming
Experience with StatCrew, SideArm web content management, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and other relevant sports information and strategic communications software and applications.

Proposed Salary

Salary range is from $50,766 to $56,000
