Summary/Objective
Reporting to the Head Ski and Snowboard Coach, the Assistant Alpine Ski Coach is responsible for assisting the head coach in meeting the goals of guiding and building an elite-level program. This requires the promotion of academic achievement and character of the student-athlete, fans, and the overall College community. The Assistant Alpine Ski Coach will have a strong background in alpine skiing and several years of race coaching. The coach is responsible for recruiting, budget management, athlete development, and all aspects pertaining to the rules of Lees-McRae College and the United States Collegiate Ski & Snowboard Association (
USCSA
). A focus on recruitment and retention of student-athletes, growing and maintaining rosters, competition preparation, generation of net tuition revenue, and meticulous budget management are essential for this position.
Essential Functions
Create training/practice schedules.
Ski while carrying up to 50lbs.
Coordinate travel/competition logistics during the season.
Work in an outdoor alpine environment during adverse conditions.
Travel with the team for competitions.
Effectively manage an annual budget.
Participate in fundraising/community events.
Engage with student-athletes and follow up on academic progress.
Assist the Head Coach in the day-to-day operations which includes preparation, organization and implementation of effective practice schedules, off-season programs, and in-season competition.
Evaluation and recruitment of elite prospective student-athletes.
Monitoring student-athletes’ academic progress and growth as a person.
Individual workouts, conditioning, and strength training with team members.
Competition day meal planning and organization.
Assisting head coach in all phases of student-athlete mentoring and evaluation
Other administrative duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position will not directly supervise staff, but it will have responsibility for such when it comes to student assistants and/or managers.
Work Environment
Normal office environment in addition to non-traditional environment that includes gymnasiums, weight room, locker room, and outdoor venues. Coach will be outdoors frequently, particularly during the winter season, at the Beech Mountain Ski Resort leading team workouts.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, 12-month position. Days and hours of work will vary. Typical work schedule will be Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Frequent evening and weekend work is required for recruitment and competition events.
Travel
Extensive day and overnight travel is required as needed. Must possess a valid state-issued driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree
Previous coaching or ski experience at the high school or college level
Excellent written and oral communication, well-developed presentation skills, and outstanding customer and quality service skills
Competency with Microsoft Office applications and social media marketing platforms
Ability to build relationships with student-athletes and families
Knowledge of
USCSA
and
NCAA
Division II rules and regulations
Preferred Education and Experience
Master’s degree in a related field
L100 certification through
USCSA
Experience with Slate or another
CRM
Certifications:
CPR
,
AED
, and First Aid

Physical Demands
Coach should be actively skiing and in good condition to participate on the slopes for practices and competitions. The employee must occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and use tools. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
