as the day to day operations of the business office. This position also ensures the compliance of all state
fiscal rules, UNC purchasing policies, NCAA rules and regulations, and department policies and
procedures.

Position Summary:

of budgets, purchases, human resources, student employment, travel, reporting and reconciliations, as well
as the day to day operations of the business office. This position also ensures the compliance of all state
fiscal rules, UNC purchasing policies, NCAA rules and regulations, and department policies and
procedures.
Job Duties:
Preparation of the budgets for 17 sports and 12 support areas of the athletic department. This process
includes collaboration with the coaches/department heads/cost center appointees for the review of previous
and current year’s budgets and preparation of future budget; and implementation of all financial
information into the Banner Financial System. This position is responsible for the implementation of the
budget and direction that the budgets are followed, including all camp accounts, agency fund accounts,
operating accounts, as well as multiple foundation accounts. Essential part of this position. 25%
Responsible for daily operations of the business office. Process all purchasing documents, assuring that all
state and university fiscal rules and regulations are followed, including PO’s, EIO’s, P-card purchases,
journal entries and purchase requests. Work with other entities, both on campus and outside of the campus,
for accurate accounting of all equipment, uniforms, travel, supplies and services. This also includes
working with internal and external auditors, providing information and paperwork as requested. Essential
part of this position. 25%
Manage all travel for the department, including teams, individual travel (recruiting), business travel for
staff and any other student athlete travel. Responsible for assuring that all NCAA rules, as well as state and
university rules, are followed for student athletes and coaches when traveling. Check all travel documents
for accuracy and accountability. Reconcile monthly credit card statements for all airfare and other travel
related costs (hotels, buses), assuring all transactions are charged to appropriate sport/support area.
Essential part of this position. 25%
Responsible for all revenue reconciliations for ticket sales, sponsorship rev, NCAA and Big Sky rev, game
guarantees, and all other revenue generation by the department of athletics, making sure all revenues are
posted correctly and accurately. Process any game guarantees that are due to visiting teams in a timely
manner. At fiscal year end, set up appropriate account receivables and payables, and track until completed.
This is an essential part of the position. 10%
Human Resources representative for the department. Process all hiring paperwork for Professional Admin positions, technical professional positions, as well as all aspects of student employment. Execute all background checks, data forms, offer letters, etc. to Human Resources Department. Meet with all new employees and review all department policies and procedures. Serve as AAEO coordinator for the department, which requires knowledge of search procedures, paperwork to be filed with HR department,
and training of department search chairpersons. Maintain accurate personnel files for all employees.
Essential part of this position. 10%
Cell phone coordinator for the department. Order all new phones. Work with cell phone representative to
resolve any client issues. Review monthly billing to insure accurate charges. 5%
Supervise the Assistant Business Manager as well as the Equipment Room staff. Also serve as sport
supervisor of Men’s Golf program and Women’s Golf program. This requires attending competitions for
both programs, as well as providing guidance for these coaches and student athletes. Also this position is a
member of the Athletic Department Senior Staff, which requires collaboration with fellow members of the
staff to insure the implementation of the mission statement and integrity of the department.
The position requires an understanding of the reporting requirements for the NCAA, Big Sky Conference, University and the State of Colorado. The Assistant Athletic Director for Business must be able to follow complicated instructions, and use professional judgment in reconciling reports from different systems. Knowledge is required in a variety of campus systems, including payroll, financial reporting, student employment, graduate affairs and others to identify all transactions effecting the athletic department. This position must have a solid understanding of generally accepted accounting practices and be able to apply those principles in relation to other entity requirements.
This position works closely with multiple university
departments, including general accounting, accounts payable, cashier’s office, payroll, human resources,
purchasing, information technology, parking services, campus police, residence life, dining services,
student employment, alumni and foundation staff, as well as other departments that provide goods and
services to the Athletic Department. It is essential to communicate well with all of these departments
regularly to provide services to our vendors, coaches, fellow staff members, and student athletes.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or other appropriate field required.
Minimum of 5 years professional experience required. Experience in higher ed is preferred. NCAA
Division 1 experience preferred. Demonstrate excellent professional/interpersonal communication skills.
Experience with automated accounting systems required and experience with Banner Financial System
preferred. Microsoft Excel skills required. Microsoft Access skills preferred.
