This position reports directly to the Head Softball Coach and will work directly with the pitching staff. Additionally, the assistant coach must have an understanding of and accountability to NCAA, conference, University and state of Florida rules and regulations.
Coach will also be responsible for assisting with all aspects of the softball program including recruiting, student-athlete monitoring and ensuring program is in compliance with NCAA, conference and University rules and regulations; Promotes the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program, to include adhering to all departmental policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, conference, NCAA and the state of Florida; Assists in coaching student-athletes, which includes evaluating their performance in both practice and competition and providing leadership and instruction in areas of deficiencies, as required; and assists with the scouting and recruitment of student-athletes who are academically and athletically prepared for FAMU, including on-campus visits of prospective student-athletes.
Counsels student-athletes in academic, disciplinary and other matters, to include consulting with the athletics academic staff, the athletics compliance staff and other University administrators to resolve problems as needed; Attends coaches' preparatory meetings and implements strategies resulting from these meetings; Advises and counsels with student-athletes regarding their obligations to comply with all rules and regulations related to financial aid and eligibility; Performs routine daily responsibilities related to the operation of the sports program; and work may include administrative duties, including but not limited to computer data-entry, routine record keeping and compliance logs required by the NCAA.
Participates in the collection and analysis of tactical and statistical data of opponents and assists in designing game plans and strategies; Develops scouting reports and strategies for opponents; May assist head coach in clinic participation, scheduling, coordinating travel, managing equipment needs, coordinating team managers and other related functions; Performs job responsibilities in accordance with conference, NCAA rules and regulations and Title IX; Reports all known NCAA violations in accordance with institutional, conference and NCAA policies and guidelines; Coach must be able to provide effective sport instruction during practices and games, scout high level psa's, demonstrate excellent written, verbal and listening skills; Coach must have value of being a role model for student-athletes and a positive influence in the community; Coach must be able to travel to games, recruiting events, any other required athletic event and will assume any other responsibility as assigned by the Head Coach and athletic department; Performs job with a commitment to institutional customer service expectations; and performs other duties as assigned by the Head Softball Coach.
Bachelor's degree in appropriate area of specialization and one year of coaching experience at the high school level or above. Successful experience as a graduate assistant or intern in an athletic program is acceptable for up to one year of the required experience.

This is an Administrative and Professional (A&P) position.
