Job Description:
USC Athletics is looking to hire an Assistant Athletic Director, Broadcast Operations to join our staff and student community of 600+ individuals. This individual will direct the production of live sporting events for USC’s in-venue video board and Big Ten Network StudentU streams. This position is responsible for recruiting and training student and freelance workers for the execution of live event productions, as well as producing original creative video content for department’s video boards and social media channels to engage fans and promote and increase brand awareness of USC’s athletic programs.
The ideal candidate will have expert-level understanding of broadcast control rooms and staffing needs to execute a live event production as well as equipment maintenance and purchasing, managerial experience in broadcast control room setting including fiscal and staffing matters, experience with video post-production and graphic creation software, and experience with shooting of sports games/highlights/interviews. This individual will possess strong communication and organizational skills and be able to work efficiently on short deadlines, including balancing multiple projects simultaneously. Knowledge of and experience working in higher education preferred. Knowledge and previous experience working with sports leagues or conferences a plus. Understanding of the unique culture and needs of college athletes preferred.

Works together with Big Ten Network Staff in terms of requirements, event schedules, and production needs in order to meet desired outcomes.
Oversees the production of live events, with responsibilities including directing, technical directing, and operation of replay and graphics machines.
Produces original creative video content for University of Southern California’s stadium video boards and social media channels. Conceptualizes, shoots, edits, produces and distributes videos for various platforms.
Staffs, recruits and trains students and other temporary workers for BTN StudentU streams and USC live events.
Works closely with marketing staff, conference, and multimedia rightsholder as well as existing outsourced staff to ensure all sponsorship and marketing content is properly developed, displayed and executed on videoboards.
Ensures videoboards are maintained and operational at all times for athletic events.
Serves as main point of contact with production team in planning, strategizing and executing the production of live events using stadium and performance venue video boards and online streams as well as overall contract deliverables.
Oversight of financial budget for daily operations, equipment, staffing and maintenance.
Follows campus and department procurement guidelines using transparent means and established financial parameters
Collaborates with other units within external affairs department, including marketing, creative, and athletic communications, to plan and execute content that meets department goals and objectives.
Coordinates and supervises training and development of full and part-time staff and students in proper control room and production techniques.
Build and lead a team of full-time and part time broadcast professionals, engineers and game-day operators/freelancers to operate and work all events; conduct ongoing reviews of budgeting and staffing plans, recruiting, training, supervising, and evaluating departmental personnel and service providers.
Maintains technical knowledge needed to execute broadcasts to the specifications of conference and department partners.
Performs equipment upgrades and ensures secure operation procedures.
Responsible for adhering to all Department and University policies and procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws and interpretations of the Big Ten Conference and the NCAA.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in cinema & television, communication studies or another related field, and a minimum of 5 years (7 years preferred) of video industry experience in television broadcast, live-streaming, and video board production. Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education.
Experience working in higher education and/or a sports related field ideal.
Salary Range:
The annual base salary range for this position is $120,000-140,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
