DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Sport Compliance Contact: (80%)
• Act as main compliance contact for football program and other sport programs, as assigned.
• Research and provide interpretations to staff and student-athletes regarding NCAA and the conference rules.
• Provide comprehensive education program to coaches, staff and student-athletes for assigned sport programs.
• Manage monitoring of all amateurism, benefits, recruiting and recruiting and personnel activities for football and other assigned sport programs.
• Oversee the academic evaluations of incoming football student-athletes and coordinate their admission to UW.
• Manage football scholarship counts and assist in administering NLIs and financial aid agreements.
• Complete and submit waivers and NCAA violation reports as necessary.
• Maintain specific knowledge and expertise of national football issues.
• Manage and coordinate compliance operations on gameday.
• Admissions and initial eligibility responsibilities for assigned teams.
Administrative: (15%)
• Supervisory duties for Compliance Program Assistant.
• Assists the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance with the management operations of the athletics compliance office, including assisting with education, compliance-related projects and other administrative duties as assigned.
Athlete Agent and Insurance Program: (5%)
• Oversee UW’s athlete agent program and registration of athlete agents with UW.
• Manage all athlete education with student-athletes and families.
• Oversee disability insurance program and coordinate insurance needs with student-athletes and sport programs.
The Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance position will assist with the day-to-day operations of the University of Washington’s Division I NCAA Compliance program. This position is responsible for oversight of all NCAA compliance for the University of Washington football program and will act as a compliance liaison for other programs, as assigned. This role is critical to ensuring adequate institutional control for the football program and is responsible for tracking and monitoring all activities for the program.
• This position requires highly specialized knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations and how they integrate with institutional guidelines and will assist in implementing a thorough and creative education program for all coaches, staff, representatives of athletics interests and student-athletes.
• This position will be required to identify and resolve problems and issues in a timely manner using independent judgment and decision-making abilities and work with representatives of the conference and NCAA when needed.
• This position is also responsible for developing and managing a robust education program for student-athletes in all sports.
• Finally, the incumbent will be responsible for working directly with ICA staff, coaches and student-athletes to promote a positive compliance environment and to establish and maintain programs and procedures to ensure compliance with University, the Conference and NCAA regulations and federal and state law.
• Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Conference, the State of Washington and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University. The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations.
• As a condition of employment, the Employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Undergraduate degree and at least four years of full-time experience in Division I Athletics Compliance or equivalent.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Advanced working knowledge of NCAA Division I regulations.
• Advanced computer application skills, particularly with Microsoft Office, Compliance software systems, and NCAA systems (e.g. LSDBi, and Compliance Assistant).
• Must be detail-oriented and possess excellent organizational skills.
• Demonstrated ability to handle a variety of independent responsibilities and to work under pressure in a busy and diverse environment, handling confidential and sensitive information, in a professional manner.
• Must be to prioritize and complete several tasks and meet deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability to make sound judgements and decisions.
• Excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate complex issues in a clear manner to different audiences.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Post-graduate degree in a related field and five years of full-time experience in NCAA compliance, with at least two years working at a Division I FBS institution.
• Background and experience in NCAA initial eligibility regulations.
• Desire to be part of a close-knit team and to help advance our compliance office forward.
