Ferrum College, an NCAA Division III institution located in Ferrum, Virginia, is looking for its next Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance. This is a full-time, 12-month position that reports directly to the Director of Athletics. Ferrum College is a proud member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) currently in the process of transitioning to NCAA Division 2 and Conference Carolinas.

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Position will work on behalf of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics to ensure institutional compliance with NCAA, and Conference Carolinas rules and regulations. The position is responsible for developing, administration and monitoring the compliance system for maintaining institutional control for the school’s athletics program. Responsible for the comprehensive administration of all athletic compliance functions of the institution to ensure compliance with NCAA and other league rules and regulations, as well as pertinent governmental regulations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, monitoring recruiting activities, initial eligibility certification, continuing eligibility certification, financial aid administration, self-reporting and rules education. This position serves as primary person responsible for extracting data, analysis and reporting to be used by the department of athletics and other college offices, Department of Education, NCAA, Conference Carolinas and all internal Ferrum College reporting purposes. 1. Eligibility (Initial, Continuing, and Transfer)

• Monitor the NCAA Eligibility Center status for incoming student athletes
• Determine if current student-athletes meet progress toward degree and GPA requirements prior to practice and competition.
• Determine if transfer student-athletes meet NCAA eligibility

1. Departmental Data Analysis/Reports. Theses reports include but are not limited to :

• List of incoming students for Admissions and the Carter Center for Academic Success
• Enrollment Projection for Administration & Finance, Admissions, and the President
• Scholarships Utilized/Projections and Revenue Generation for Administration & Finance.
• Presentation for the Executive Leadership Committee (ELT) and Staff Council
• Graduation/Retention Rates
• NCAA Demographics
• Current Enrollment/Retention for Administration & Finance and Institutional Research; and Other Reports as assigned.

1. Financial Aid Administration

• Issue initial Grant-in-Aid documents during the recruiting process
• Issue first time Grant-in-Aid documents to existing students who have not been on scholarship before.
• Communicate with Financial Aid to disburse Renewal/Reduction/Nonrenewal letters prior to the next academic year.
• Manage the National Letter of Intent program.
• Monitor NCAA equivalency limits.
• Monitor Ferrum College budget limits.

1. Playing & Practice Season Monitoring

• Monitor reporting dates for teams prior to the start of each semester.
• Monitor and ensure teams begin at the correct dates specified by the NCAA.
• Monitor and ensure teams do not go over the NCAA maximum hours and take the correct number of days off per week.
• Ensure teams are inputting hours for Countable Athletically Related Activities (CARA) in Front Rush.

1. Monitor Recruiting Activities

• Ensure coaches are submitting the proper forms prior to recruiting activities
• Monitor the appropriate NCAA recruiting periods.
• Ensure coaches are submitting recruiting logs after recruiting activities are complete.
• Monitoring official and unofficial visit.
• Monitoring on campus scheduled sport specific tryouts.

1. Waiver Documentation and Submission

• Manage eligibility checklist for each individual sport.
• Determine if a waiver of NCAA/Conference Carolinas legislation is necessary to submit. Conduct research if any interpretations exist.
• Seek opinions of whether to submit a waiver.
• Gather documentation to submit to increase the likelihood of approval.

1. Rules Education/ Interpretations

• Conduct monthly rules education meetings with coaches to communicate bylaws, policies and procedures.
• Submit interpretation requests to the Conference Carolinas/NCAA about bylaws that need clarification.

1. Investigation and Reporting of Potential Violations

• Determine if a rules violation has occurred.
• Communicate findings to AD/FAR and others.
• Consult as needed with Conference Carolinas
• Determine institutional penalties prior to submitting to the NCAA.

Qualification Skills:

Education/ Experiences:

• A bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., sports management, legal studies)
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in athletic compliance at the Division 2 level.
• In depth knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
• Detail oriented with a high level of integrity and professionalism.
