The Assistant Athletics Director, under the direction of an Associate Athletics Director or above, the Assistant Athletic Director of Strategic Communications will serve as the primary voice for the department’s brand and supervisor of the strategic communications department. The Assistant AD of Strategic Communications will support and enhance the mission of University of North Florida Athletic Department through creative and strategic messaging. Areas of responsibility include sports information, serving as liaison to local and national media, brand advancement through writing and distributing press releases and publications, managing all information on UNFOspreys.com, creating and publishing content on social media platforms, broadcast, and department historical archiving. Responsible for the supervision and training of full-time employees, interns, and part-time employees within the Communications Department.
This position is primarily responsible for the overall direction, management and supervision of the Athletics Communications department including the allocated budget and the full and part-time employees, interns, and student assistants. Responsible for the website design, maintenance, and updates. Manage and promote media interaction with the Athletic Department, Coaches, and student-Athletes. Serve as Department spokesperson. Advise the Athletic Director on media relations matters. Member of the Athletics Department senior staff assisting in the development and implementation of strategies and objectives to ensure departmental goals are met. Member of the external operations team assisting in the advancement of the Athletic Departments external operations, brand awareness and enhancement, social media presence, and revenue generation. The position will accept additional duties and special projects as assigned by the Athletic Director and/or his designee.

The Assistant AD of Strategic Communications will serve as the athletic department’s primary spokesperson and media liaison. Serve as the primary voice for the department’s brand and will enhance the mission of University of North Florida Athletic Department through creative and strategic messaging. The Assistant AD for Strategic Communications will act as the lead statistician for the department, responsible for game day operations and training staff in statistical duties. Athletics communications will act as the primary communicators through department social media platforms, in collaboration with external operations department colleagues. The Assistant AD of Strategic Communications will manage and continuously assess the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit including software, hardware, and personnel workflow for athletics communications to ensure efficiency, quality information, and consistent brand messaging. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures. Oversees the budget and direction of full-time, part-time, and intern staffing.

This position requires either (a) Master’s degree from an acceptable accredited institution in a directly related area of specialization and two years of experience directly related to the job functions; (b) Bachelor’s degree from an acceptable accredited institution in a directly related area of specialization and four years of experience directly related to the job functions; or (c ) 8 years of direct experience.

The holder of this position is responsible for any NCAA and ASUN Conference bylaws and guidelines that a member of the UNF Athletic Compliance Department provides in addition to all UNF regulations. The individual must also assure that NCAA, Conference and UNF regulations are followed to the best of their knowledge and any violations thereof are reported to UNF Athletic Compliance.
This position has been designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). This position has been designated as a CSA because it involves significant responsibility for student and campus activities and/or responsibility for campus security. As such, any person in this position must report to the University Police Department a crime or an incident that might be a crime that he/she becomes aware of. This position has a reporting requirement because the University believes that responsibility for students, campus activities and/or campus security will make the holder of this position someone members of the University community will see as an authority figure and someone to whom they can seek help. A CSA is not expected to investigate or determine whether a criminal incident actually took place. A CSA’s responsibility is a duty to report. All positions designated as CSAs are required to complete an online or in-person training session.
