The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks an ASSISTANT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR-STUDENT ATHLETE SERVICES to provide counseling and advising to student-athletes on major and career planning and to maintain accurate and timely information on academic progress. To assist with the development and facilitation of new employee and ongoing training in the areas of student-athlete support services and student-athlete development. To serve as liaison to New Student Programs and to perform eligibility evaluations. To serve on campus committees and complete projects as assigned. To establish and maintain relationships with all student-athletes, coaches and faculty.

Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks an ASSISTANT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR-STUDENT ATHLETE SERVICES to provide counseling and advising to student-athletes on major and career planning and to maintain accurate and timely information on academic progress. To assist with the development and facilitation of new employee and ongoing training in the areas of student-athlete support services and student-athlete development. To serve as liaison to New Student Programs and to perform eligibility evaluations. To serve on campus committees and complete projects as assigned. To establish and maintain relationships with all student-athletes, coaches and faculty.

Responsibilities:

1. Supervises and serves as liason of Student-Athlete Associate/Assistant Directors and attendsweekly athletic department senior staff meetings. Delegates to serve in place of Associate AthleticDirector at certain events and/or meetings.
   
2. Manages onboarding of new employees and ensures student-athlete staff are properly trained. Ensures staff meet all deadlines. Coordinates search process and schedules interviews whenrecruiting new staff.
   
3. Provides counseling and advising to student-athletes on major and career planning whilemaintaining accurate and timely information on academic progress.
   
4. Oversees Internship Program, organizes the Summer Bridge, and New Student-Athlete OrientationPrograms.
   
5. Serves as liaison between New Student Programs and Athletics Department.
   
6. Provides administrative support to the Associate Athletic Director with day-to-day counselingresponsibilities of athletic teams.
   
7. Works with faculty and staff to proctor exams for student-athletes at non-standard times or whiletraveling for athletic competition.
   
8. Adheres to all institution, conference, and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules andregulations and reports all know NCAA violations in accordance with institutional, conference andNCAA policies and guidelines. Adheres to the Family Educational Rights to Privacy Act (FERPA).
   
9. Assists in the development of class schedules and degree plans for assigned students inconjunction with the athletic academic counselor, with an emphasis on University, American AthleticConference and NCAA academic eligibility requirements.
   
10. Works flexible schedules, including early morning and late evening hours and weekends. Travelwith athletic teams as needed.
    
11. Performs other duties as assigned.

(Annual Salary: $55,180 - $65,000)

Qualifications

Master's degree in a related field and four (4) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
