Description

Under the general direction of the Head Athletic Trainer, the Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for the prevention, treatment, management, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries, the administration of the Shimano Training Room, the management of all NCAA and college policies related to sports medicine, insurance, and wellness education. This position will work from August 1 – May 31.

Essential Duties include the following.  Other duties may be assigned. 

Assessment, Treatment, & Referral of Athletic Injuries (85%)

  • Provide on-field assessment and management of injuries during practices, home events, and occasional away contests.
  • Administer and supervise the daily treatments and rehabilitation of injured student-athletes.
  • Ensure proper medical referrals to the Frederick Memorial Hospital, Wellness Center, and other health care providers.
  • Maintain accurate medical records of all student-athletes including records for athletic-related injuries/illness for varsity student-athletes and approved club sport participants.
  • Determine the level of participation for injured student-athletes and communicate with coaches regarding their injured students.
  • Facilitate relationships with local physicians and physical therapists for services for student-athletes.
  • Provide appropriate communication to other campus departments (Campus Safety, Dean of Students, Residence Life, etc.).
