JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of injuries within the College's comprehensive sports medicine program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prevention of athletic injuries and illnesses
• Evaluation of athletic injuries
• Treatment of athletic injuries
• Providing counseling and education to student athletes
• Assist with coordination and scheduling of medical coverage for home and away competitions
• Supervision, education, and recruitment of students
• Recordkeeping and documentation
• Work with doctors and other allied health professionals to deliver care to student athletes

Qualifications

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education : Must possess at least a bachelor’s degree from a CAATE accredited athletic training program
• Experience : Some medical experience preferred but not required
• Certificate/License : Must be NATA BOC certified and possess or be eligible for licensure in North Carolina
• Skills:
  • Applied Knowledge: Athletic trainers must be able to identify and understand a wide range of medical problems. Diagnosing, evaluating symptoms, and working with other healthcare professionals will be needed.
  • Decision-Making Skills: Quick thinking by athletic trainers can greatly impact a person’s immediate care and recovery
  • Attention to Detail: Athletic trainers should take notes on most effective practices for each individual and be able to apply the best therapeutic interventions
  • Interpersonal Skills: Athletic trainers work with people in stressful situations. Keeping a clear head and a calm demeanor when talking to people in pain, other medical professionals, coaches, and families will be an asset.
