The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for assisting the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine in scheduling and supervising the medical needs of the student-athletes in the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. This individual will have the opportunity to function within a comprehensive sports performance model at the Division I level, preventing, evaluating, treating, and designing thorough ”return to play” programs for injured student-athletes. The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for, but not limited to: overseeing the daily operation of the athletic training room, medical referrals when warranted, thorough documentation as part of student-athlete’s medical records, mentoring other athletic trainers, monitoring and addressing medical and wellness issues of the assigned team(s) and other responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine. This person may be required to become a CPR instructor to assist with certification of Athletic Training and Athletic Department staff. This individual is responsible for the policies and procedures of the University, Conference, and the NCAA in the day-to-day operation of the sports medicine program.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training or other related field and NATABOC National Certification are required. The individual must meet qualifications for licensure in the State of North Carolina. Additionally, current CPR and First Aid certifications are prerequisites. The individual must have strong written and verbal communication skills. This position requires the ability to work with autonomy and the ability to multi-task. This position requires evening, weekend, and travel assignments and may require long hours outside of the 40-hour work week.
Master’s Degree in Athletic Training or other related field. Two (2) or more years of experience as an Athletic Trainer at the collegiate or professional level. Demonstrated experience with current evidence-based rehab skills and techniques including post-operative management, therapeutic exercise, and manual therapy-based skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Knowledgeable of ATS (Athletic Trainer System) and other IT hardware/software. Experience as a preceptor with a CAATE-accredited education program.

Sport Coverage and Clinical Athletic Training
The Assistant Athletic Trainer will maintain regular office hours to prevent, evaluate, treat, and rehabilitate injuries and illnesses of student-athletes in accordance with athletic training room policies and procedures. Coverage of practices and games for assigned teams and additional coverage as needed to ensure all events are covered. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will make appropriate referrals to outside medical professionals when necessary, to further care for UNCG student-athletes when warranted.

Program Administration
The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for, but not limited to, overseeing the daily operation of the athletic training room, keeping thorough documentation as part of the student-athlete’s medical record, and assigned administrative duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine.
