The primary responsibility of this position is to administer first aid, emergency care transportation, treatment, preventative care, and rehabilitation to student-athletes. This position will also provide administration of daily treatments and reconditioning programs in the Mitchum Basketball Practice Facility. Other duties include:
• Arranging weekend treatments on injured student-athletes during season.
• Coverage of daily practices and weekend home games for assigned sports and assist where needed in other sports.
• Providing daily preventative and pre-injury taping and wrapping techniques for student-athletes.
• Supervision and performance of emergency first aid techniques and transportation needs for all injured, Supervise follow-ups on any conditions found for all student-athletes with regard to yearly intercollegiate physical examinations and assist where needed in other sports, Supervise and clinically instruct graduate athletic trainers/student volunteers/interns on the field, in the athletic training room and in the performance of athletic training room duties.
• Perform emergency first aid techniques and transportation for student athletes and assist where needed in other sports, Perform pre/post-game and pre/post-practice athletic training field setup.
• Counsel injured /sick student-athletes, talk to parents as needed and assist where needed in other sports.
• Administration and review of yearly intercollegiate athletic physical examinations student-athletes and assist where needed in other sports.
• Travel with assigned teams to away events.
• Communicate via daily updates to the coaching staff regarding student-athlete injury or illness status, practice status, injury prevention methods, conditioning routines, or nutritional concerns.
• Meet visiting school’s athletic trainer to arrange for the athletic training needs: treatments, modalities, water, ice at practice, physician appointments, taping needs, etc.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date injury records, daily treatment records and other athletic training room forms and assist where needed in other sports.
• Responsible for insurance claim process on injured student-athletes.
• Make medical appointments/tests for student-athletes and follow up on results of evaluations/tests by medical providers.
• Maintain good relations with area medical personnel.
• Assist in the administration of Athletic Department drug testing program, Assist in

/First Aid recertification for athletic department coaches and staff, Assist with pre and post-practice/event treatments

• Provide consultation on injuries to people from the University and surrounding community.

Master’s degree in the area of athletic training.
NATA
certified athletic trainer.
Eligible for
VATA
licensed athletic trainer.
CPR

AED
certified.
Allied health skills dealing with care and prevention of injuries/conditions occurring to student-athletes.
Ability to provide proper rehabilitation techniques in dealing with athletic injuries.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Considerable experience in the field of sports medicine/athletic training.
Athletic training experience with Women’s Basketball at the Division I Level.
