Job Description:
Reporting to the Associate Director of Athletics for Sports Medicine, the Assistant Athletic Trainer will provide high quality evidence-based healthcare to all studentĀ athletes including prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses.
This position works closely with other members of the sports medicine staff, the Wellness Center for Health and Counseling, team physicians, and other medical and allied health practitioners to provide timely and high-quality medical care to the student-athletes.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Job duties specific to this position:
Responsible for providing timely, evidence based, and high-quality prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses for all student athletes under the direction of the College's Medical Director and Team Physician(s).
Ensuring that all student-athlete medical clearance procedures are followed in accordance with NCAA legislation and Departmental policies.
Assist other staff members with the prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses for all student athletes as requested.
Prepare and maintain appropriate medical records and reports as required utilizing the present EMR system for such purposes following all NCAA and NATA guidelines; compliance with all federal and state laws including FERPA and HIPPA; and the maintenance of the highest level of confidence in regards to the various confidential information that the sports medicine staff is exposed to in regards to student-athletes and coaches.
Travel with athletic teams as assigned and provide athletic injury care coverage during practice and games. The ability to perform these tasks includes but is not limited to being physically able to get to an injured student athlete on the field of play in a timely fashion, being physically able to get in a position to assess the student athlete's injury in an acute situation (i.e. squatting, kneeling, bending, ability to lift 25-50 lbs., etc.), the ability to perform emergency protocols, provide appropriate hydration and monitor the safety of the environment in which the practice or game is taking place.
Assist with development, implementation, and administration of health and safety programming in alignment with current NCAA health and safety strategic priorities.
Collaborate with the Certified Strength and Conditioning Coaches on prevention and rehabilitation of athletic related injuries.
Effectively communicate to student athletes, coaches, and administration the Department's medical clearance, medical coverage, and health insurance policies.
Closely collaborate with other College offices, including but not limited to the Wellness Center for Health and Counseling, the Office of Campus Life and Leadership, the Student Success Center, and the Office of Disability Support Services.
Serve as a clinical preceptor of graduate student athletic trainers from local CAATE accredited educational programs.
Understands responsibilities with respect to Title IX and Clery Act.
Demonstrates capacity, skill and willingness to engage student-athletes and contribute to student-athlete success.
Perform other duties as assigned or required to meet Department and College goals and objectives.

Requirements:
Minimum of 1-3 years of full-time athletic training experience in intercollegiate athletics; preferable at the NCAA Division I or Division II level.
A Bachelor's Degree is required. A Master's Degree in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine or closely related field is preferred.
Must have and maintain BOC (Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer)) certification.
Must have and maintain Professional Rescuer CPR/BLS certification.
Manual therapy/soft tissue experience preferred.
Must meet requirements to obtain and maintain New York State licensure.
Requires the ability to work collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare
providers.
Must have strong interpersonal communications and human relation skills.
