Position Summary

The intercollegiate athletics program is an integral part of the university striving to achieve the same standards excellence in athletics that exist within academic programs. The program is concerned with the physical and mental welfare of he student and strives to ensure that every athlete has the opportunity to succeed academically and obtain a degree. Sports programs are a vital function of the University at large.

The Assistant Athletic Trainer reports to the Director of Sports Medicine / Head Athletic Trainer and Senior Associate Athletic Director and is responsible for assisting in the direction of all aspects of the athletic training Program. This position exists to coordinate the prevention, management and rehabilitation of athletic injuries Sustained by student-athletes in all 17 varsity sport programs, serving as the primary athletic trainer for selected sports.

Job Duties

80% Prevent, provide acute treatment and rehabilitation for athletic injuries in student-athletes.
Major duties include:
- Serving as the primary athletic trainer for assigned sports including travel with teams
- Student-athlete education
- Assist with inventory, budget, purchasing, and other athletic training administrative functions

20% Educate and supervise athletic training students including competency sign-offs. Cooperate with the Athletic Training Education Program administrative staff to assist with programs designed to educate and train future athletic trainers.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Education:
   A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Athletic Training or related field or experience.

2. Experience:
   Two (2) years of athletic training experience is required. Experience at the Division I collegiate level preferred.

3. Certification/Registration/Licensing:
   NATA Certification required; Colorado Registration required; first-aid, CPR and AED certified

4. Ability:
   Basic computer skills required (Microsoft Office Windows), communication, problem solving,
   management, supervisory and organizational skills, ability to work well under pressure; knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. Must be able to work nights and weekends as required.

5. Special Considerations:
   Recommended - Documented teaching experience and approved clinical instructor experience
