The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for athletic injury prevention and risk management recognition, evaluation, and assessment of injuries; immediate care of injuries and illness; rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries; and health care organization and administration.

Eligible to sit for BOC certification. Michigan Athletic Training License or eligible to obtain Michigan Athletic Training License.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered:
Master’s degree is preferred
Additional certifications, CES, PES, FMS, Graston, IASTM, Etc..
Enforce all sports medicine and athletics department policies and procedures.
Supervise and assist in the daily operation of the athletic training facilities.
Assist in the maintenance and cleanliness of the Athletic Training facilities.
Help coordinate set up and tear down of Athletic Training Equipment and water for games and practice
Carry out physician orders concerning immediate care, treatment, and rehabilitation.
Travel with various athletic teams, provide practice and competition coverage as assigned.
Keep accurate and up to date medical/injury records on all Ferris State University Athletes
Provide supervision and direction to student workers working in the sports medicine department.
Serve on University committees as appointed.
Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Prepare communication with Coaches on active injuries, treatments, and make comments on plan of care
Support, promote and develop University student enrollment and retention initiatives.
Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with University policies and applicable laws.
Reports directly to the Head Athletic Trainer/Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine.
Responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of designated information.
Be able to lift up to 45 lbs, be able to support up to 200 lbs and prolonged periods of standing.
Strong interpersonal skills, effective communicator, good time manager.
Successfully work with a diverse group of students, coaches, parents, medical personnel, and University Administrators.
Ability to work under time pressure and stressful situations.
Ability to work extensive hours and travel extensively with various athletic teams as scheduled.
Have a flexible schedule for changes to practices or games.
Be available by phone after hours and on the weekends for emergencies and council.
Ability to withstand adverse weather conditions, i.e. extreme hot and extreme cold
