Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine, this position is responsible to plan and implement an approved program for athletic training, applicable to the intercollegiate athletics program at the Metropolitan Campus, designed to provide prevention, care, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Per the designated athletic training program assignment, the Assistant Athletic Trainer advises student-athletes on the prevention and care of athletic injuries and provides Athletic Trainer coverage at athletic activities. This position ensures appropriate maintenance of equipment and supplies assigned to the athletic training program; maintains records on examination and physical condition of student-athletes. This role will also receive additional daily direction and oversight from the Head Team Physician and/or Physician Assistant.
Bachelor’s degree required in Athletic Training from an accredited institution; Master’s degree preferred.
Certification through the Board of Certification (BOC) and eligible for New Jersey licensure as an athletic trainer upon hire.
Minimum 1 year experience preferred as a certified athletic trainer.
Experience preferred managing multiple sports as an athletic trainer.
Effective communication, interpersonal and decision-making skills.
Must have First Aid and CPR – professional rescuer certification prior to the first day of employment. American Red Cross or American Heart Association certification preferred.
Must be able to work flexible hours as required including evenings, weekends, travel, and overnight trips.
Ability to lift <25 lbs.
Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record in accordance with the university’s Motor Vehicle Policy. A MVC check will be required at the time of hire and thereafter as deemed appropriate by the university. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the MVC check.
