The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing athletic training services for the Minnesota State University, Mankato (
MSU
) Athletics Department. The Athletic Trainer assists in providing optimal health care to
MSU
student-athletes by providing coverage within the athletic training facility, at practices, and at home and away events. This position works directly with student-athletes to perform assessments, provide initial care for athletic injuries, and coordinate rehabilitation with team physicians. sports medicine staff, coaches, and strength and conditioning staff. This incumbent will work cooperatively with athletics staff, coaches, department personnel, and assist other staff athletic trainers in the management of all athletic team medical coverage. The Assistant Athletic Trainer handles treatment, scheduling, oversees medical records, and maintains/updates rehabilitation progress reports. The incumbent also supervises graduate athletic training students enrolled in the Master of Science Athletic Training (
MSAT
). Program as assigned by the
MSAT
faculty. The Athletic Trainer maintains up to date knowledge of and complies with the Board of Certification (
BOC
) for the Athletic Trainer practice standards and code of professional responsibility. Other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.
Master’s Degree in Athletic Training from a
CAATE
-accredited program (Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education), Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or other related program. (Conferred on an official transcript at the time of application.)
OR
2+ post-secondary experience as a certified athletic trainer.
Certified by the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainer (
BOC
).
Current Minnesota Athletic Trainer licensure or eligibility to obtain upon hire.
Current
CPR
and
AED
certifications.
Advanced knowledge and skills as required by the
NATA
-
BOC
to perform the duties and responsibilities of a Certified Athletic Trainer.
Demonstrate clinical and administrative effectiveness and ability to advise faculty, coaches, and student-athletes.
Demonstrate ability to develop and maintain relationships with the local medical community and demonstrate knowledge of insurance requirements and procedures.
Demonstrate commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
Demonstrate superior interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate with a variety of individuals, including but not limited to student athletes, peers, coaches, parents, and physicians.
Demonstrate strong supervisory skills and the ability to provide clear and accurate direction to both peers and athletic training students.
Work safely at all times, which includes but is not limited to, participating and completing all required safety trainings, as well as performing all job tasks in accordance with Minnesota State University, Mankato policies and procedures utilizing appropriate tools, equipment and personal protective equipment.
This is a 12-month position. Must be available for overnight, weekend, and holiday travel. Must be able to work in various environment conditions. A flexible daily work schedule is necessary including nights, early mornings based on schedule of team practices and athletic events, weekends, and overnight travel with, and as scheduled by, individual intercollegiate athletic teams. Some on-call duties are associated with this position.

The salary range denoted above is the contractual range; however, salary upon hire is dependent upon qualifications and experience.
