Reporting to the Sr. Associate Athletics Director, Internal Operations, the Assistant Athletic Director,

DEI

and Student Athlete Development oversees all aspects of the Student-Athlete Development Program and department

DEI

efforts. This role supports the department by performing the following duties:

Design and implement all aspects of

DEI

programming and education for staff, coaches and student- athletes. Develop and implement initiatives that promote

DEI

with the department of athletics.

Serve as department’s

NCAA

athletics diversity and inclusion designee, represent the department on

NCAA

and A10 committees as assigned.

Serve as a co-chair to the Athletics Department

DEI

Task Force.

Collaborate with coaches, staff, and human resources to develop and implement hiring policies that attract diverse candidate pools to open positions within the department.

Cultivate relationships and collaborate with other campus units focused on equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

Serve as a leader in developing a diverse and inclusive work environment in the Department of Athletics.

Evaluate diversity initiatives by tracking metrics for the programs.

Provide various reports for internal and external partners.

Oversee the Student-Athlete Development Program that includes career development, community engagement, leadership development, and student-athlete groups (e.g.

SAAC

,

BSAA

, etc.)

Coordinate

LEAPP

(Athletics Leadership Academy for Student-Athletes).

Initiate contact, build relationships, and collaborate with the offices on campus to achieve developmental goals of student-athletes. Collaborations will include Dean of Students Office, University Counseling Center, Career Services, Multicultural Student Services, Office of Community Service, International Services Office, Center for Student Engagement, and Undergraduate Fellowships and Research, among others.

Manage athletic department’s community service and engagement program efforts.

Plan semester kick-off events for both student-athletes and staff.

Oversee nominations and applications for various scholarship and award opportunities for student-athletes and staff.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Experience in higher education administration or athletics administration.

Relevant work experience in areas of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.

Experience in training/education, group facilitation, program development, and evaluation.

Knowledge of

NCAA

Division 1 rules and regulations.

Experience in event planning.

Experience developing, organizing, and implementing programming.

Ability to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to analyze and interpret policy and procedural questions.

Ability to stay current on issues of equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging as it relates to the higher education landscape as well as national issues.

Strong, detail-oriented, organizational skills.

Ability to work independently and effectively on multiple tasks.

Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Typical Hiring Range

$55,931.64 - $76,934.53 How is pay for new employees determined at GW?
