Job Summary:
Responsible for managing all aspects of the sports information and media relations for Hawai?i Pacific University Athletics and its 14 sports programs in accordance with the rules and policies of the University, Pacific West Conference and the NCAA Division II. The position involves producing and publicizing a variety of written, verbal and video communication, coordinating efforts with media outlets, maintaining program records and managing game-day operations. Flexibility to travel and work nights and weekends is required as well as the ability to work on short deadlines and multitask.

Job Summary:

The position involves producing and publicizing a variety of written, verbal and video communication, coordinating efforts with media outlets, maintaining program records and managing game-day operations. Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
• Two years’ experience in media relations, sports information or public relations
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) and desktop publishing software
• Working knowledge of in-game statistical software (e.g. StatCrew)

Desired Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree from an accredited university, preferably in the field of communications, journalism or public relations
• Experience with Sidearm Sports website design and maintenance
• Experience of working with local media outlets
• In-depth knowledge of all aspects of organizing, directing and administering an NCAA Sports Information program to include stating of games and promptly reporting results.
• Knowledge of Division II rules pertaining to sports information
• Knowledge of desktop publishing software (Adobe Photoshop and/or QuarkXPress)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with people of diverse backgrounds
• Ability to work within short deadlines and manage several tasks simultaneously

Other Qualifications:

• Report to work obligations to support the department and may require work during HPU’s winter break, if necessary.
• Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with the Protection of Minors policy.
• Able to work all shifts and extended hours.
• This position may also require driving responsibility for an HPU vehicle.
• Upon hire, candidate must have reliable personal transportation to facilitate travel between to all HPU worksites and other locations as required by the position. This includes a valid driver’s license and a personal vehicle that is legally registered and insured.
• Due to driving responsibilities, you must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with HPU’s Vehicle Driving policy.
• Successful candidate will be able to work in an environment that utilize excellent time and stress management skills.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions:

1. Media Relations (35%) - Serve as a primary contact for all media inquiries regarding HPU Athletics Department sponsored sports - Write and distribute press releases and featured stories aimed at promoting HPU Athletics - Produce and distribute media guides - Develop and maintain HPU Athletics website - Coordinate broadcasting initiatives and media appearances between the media outlets and the members of HPU Athletics staff and/or student-athletes. - Explore and coordinate efforts in new media technologies/opportunities such as, but not limited to, audio/video streaming, social media distribution, etc. - Organize press conferences and facilitating interviews with the members of HPU Athletics staff or student-athletes. - Develop and implement effective media outreach strategies

2. Game Day Operations (45%) - Capture accurate statistical records at every home contest for official NCAA and Pacific West Conference purposes and ensure immediate distribution of this information to the public. - Recruit, train, assign and supervise student statisticians - Update game statistics information on HPU Athletics website and media guides. - Ensure provision of appropriate public announcements and game environment information at home contests. - Produce game programs and scripts. - Ensure that game sites have broadcasting and sports information capabilities

3. Support Operations of the HPU Athletics Department (15%) - Organize and maintain a system of historical files, reference materials, statistics, results, and records for the HPU Athletics programs. - Produce game contracts for all 12 sports programs - Fundraise to support maintenance of HPU athletics website - Perform other related duties as assigned

4. Performs other related duties as assigned (5%)

• Actively participates as an effective member of team by completing assigned duties, accepting additional assignments or reassignments.
• Assists with seasonal peaks.
