Earlham College is seeking an Assistant Baseball Coach to join our team!
Summary:
The Assistant Baseball Coach works to assist the Head Coach, performing all duties in compliance with all NCAA, Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, and Earlham College rules and regulations. Applicant preferably has a background in hitting and infield instruction.
Essential Functions:
Recruiting
Help plan and host prospective student-athlete visits to campus.
Assist head coach in responding to contacts generated over the year. These include coaches’ mailings, player questionnaires, attendance at showcases, observing team practices and games, phone calls, recruiting services, emails, and admissions contacts.
Establish and maintain recruiting data base (FrontRush).
Perform phone calls, zoom calls, and emails to recruits - usually 10-20 calls per night, 5-7 nights per week.
Attend practices and/or games of recruits - usually 3-4 per week
Attend showcases and tournaments throughout the year.
Applicant needs to have a strong desire and ability to successfully recruit.
Send out our program newsletter to recruits and alumni weekly.
Office Duties
Build relationships with prospective student- athletes and the current student-athletes on campus.
Assist the head coach as travel coordinator by arranging bus and van schedules, pre- and post- game meals, and overnight accommodations.
Planning and conducting baseball camps, clinics, leagues, lessons, and tournaments, coordinated with the Athletic Director.
Maintaining an active Earlham Baseball Alumni Club.
Analyze video of recruits, current players, and opponents through AWRE and other services.
Assist the head coach in monitoring academic progress with study tables, academic meetings, class scheduling, and classroom checks.
Be a presence in the office, able to assist player needs.
Fundraise with in the community, coordinated with the Athletic Director, and meeting established fund-raising goals for the baseball program.
Practice/Player Development
Applicant preferably has collegiate playing and coaching experience.
Assist head coach with daily practice plan.
Direct individual drills, providing individual player attention and more repetitions per player
Help the head coach in overseeing individual work outs.
Rapsodo knowledge implementation is preferred.
Scouting/Game - Preparation/Game Day Duties
Coach third base.
Preference to work with infielders but best candidate will be considered.
Assist with game decisions
Help prepare the team with scouting reports.
Perform duties of trainer, manage med kit, water, warm-ups, balls, bats, fungos, throwing batting practice, helmets, and other game needs.
Other
Help distribute, collect, and inventory player gear and equipment.
Be knowledgeable and able to assume head coaching responsibilities in case the head coach is unable to perform their duties.
Be an active member of the athletic department staff by attending staff meetings, supporting other athletic programs, and being responsive to the needs of departmental support staff (director of athletics, support staff, athletic trainer, sports information director, equipment manager).
Promote the athletic program, both on-campus and off-campus, and actively participate in and contributing professionally to the Athletic Department, the College, and the Richmond community.
Help maintain Randal R. Sadler Stadium.
Fulfill other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Head Baseball Coach and Athletic Director.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree is required, Master’s preferred.
Previous collegiate coaching experience, preferably at a DIII school, or success as a head coach at the high school level.
The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership and a commitment to, and understanding and appreciation of, NCAA DIVISION III athletics and wellness in a private liberal arts college.
Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working on a campus with a diverse student body.
