Summary:
The Assistant Baseball Coach supports the Head Coach in coaching duties of one of a variety of individual or team intercollegiate team sports programs governed by NCAA Operating Bylaws. The assistant coach develops players both on and off the field, promoting good decision-making, scholarship, and sportsmanship. They contribute to the baseball program's efforts, collaborating with the College to raise awareness of the team's and individual players' accomplishments on campus and in the community. The position assists the Head Coach with all aspects of recruitment, training of student-athletes, and the total organization and administration of the program.
Essential Departmental Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists the Head Coach in organizing, preparing, and conducting practices, training, and competition.
Coaches and develops a specific position group, both on and off the field, in line with the program's vision.
Creates position-specific practice plans for individual/group sessions (15-40 min) that address the program's needs for the day, week, or season.
Supports practice and gameday preparations.
Assists with general facility maintenance.
Provides input regarding individuals and the practice plan/gameplan decisions.
Responsible for scouting report duties as assigned.
Assists with implementing and supervising athletic training, strength, and conditioning workouts, and provides technical support and training to athletes.
Contributes to recruiting efforts, including identifying prospects, communication with recruits and coordinating campus visits.
Identify potential prospective student athletes via mailings, video, emails, tournament in person scouting, HS in person scouting, JC in person scouting, and use of contacts and referrals.
Communicates with recruits, tracks interactions using recruiting software, organizes campus visits with the Head Coach and Admissions, and compiles recruit contact information.
Communicates with high school coaches, coordinates mailings and visits with Admissions, attends home visits with Head Coach, sends personalized notes, follows up with top recruits, and makes regional recruiting trips.
May perform administrative duties including ordering and maintaining equipment and supplies, monitoring budgets, and event management.
Maintains a good working relationship with other College departments and athletic administrative and coaching staff.
Assists as a team member and support source for The College of Wooster Athletic Department.
May be assigned additional duties in teaching, committee and administrative work. These responsibilities are determined annually by the Head Coach, Chair of Physical Education, and Director (Associate Director) of Athletics and Physical Education.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Knowledge and understanding of the sport, and sport specific certification, as appropriate.
Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification is required (and can be completed after hire).
The ability to obtain College driver certification is desirable.

Work Environment:
Assistant Coaches are required to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays.
Travel for athletic contests, recruiting, coaches meetings and convention/caucus attendance is required.
While performing the duties of this job, the Assistant Coach regularly travels in outside weather conditions, is exposed to wet or humid conditions, extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, and is occasionally exposed to fumes, smoke, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the coach is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The individual must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
