Essential Functions

Job Summary

Responsible for on-court coaching, serves as community relations liaison for the basketball program to the public, and monitors the academic progress of student-athletes. Assists the head coach in providing management of the basketball program.

Core Responsibilities

1. Stays abreast of and adheres to NCAA and conference rules.
2. Monitors the satisfactory academic progress of student-athletes and helps arrange for necessary academic counseling through the athletics academic coordinator.
3. Assists the head coach with on-the-floor coaching.
4. Assists the head coach with basketball training of student-athletes.
5. Assists the head coach with the scheduling of opponents.
6. Works with the athletics administration in matters of public relations and promotions.
7. Promotes fundraising for the athletics department.
8. Supports student-athlete development programs and assures student-athlete welfare of the team by being respectful.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
• Three (3) years of experience as a basketball student-athlete or coach.
• Specific knowledge in the sport of men’s basketball, knowledge and compliance with all NCAA, State of Texas, UTSA, and The American Athletic Conference rules and regulations.
• Demonstrated excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment, discretion, and flexibility.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to work on a variety of tasks simultaneously.
• Knowledge of current trends and best practices in instructional software and educational technologies.

Working Conditions

• Office environment.
• Gymnasium environment.
• Requires use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer, and calculator.
• Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions, or other business-related events.
• Occasional after-hours and weekend work or overtime may be required.

Physical Demands:

• Physical activity in the sport of basketball.

This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee’s responsibility.
