Essential Functions

Job Summary

Responsible for on-court coaching, serves as community relations liaison for the basketball program to the public, and monitor academic progress of student-athletes. Assist the Head coach to provide management of the basketball program.

Core Responsibilities

1. Be knowledgeable of and adhere to NCAA and conference rules.
2. Monitor the satisfactory academic progress of student-athletes and help arrange for necessary academic counseling through the Athletics Academic Coordinator.
3. Assist the Head Coach with on-the-floor coaching.
4. Assist the Head Coach with basketball training of student-athletes.
5. Assist the Head Coach with scheduling of opponents.
6. Work with the Athletics Administration in matters of public relations and promotions.
7. Be active in fundraising for the Athletics Department.
8. Support student-athlete development programs and ensure the student-athlete welfare of the team by being respectful.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.
   

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
• Three (3) years of experience as a basketball student-athlete or coach.
• Specific knowledge in the sport of men’s basketball and knowledge and compliance with all NCAA, State of Texas, UTSA, and The American Athletic Conference rules and regulations.
• Demonstrated excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment, discretion, and flexibility.
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to work on a variety of tasks simultaneously.
• Knowledge of current trends and best practices in instructional software and educational technologies.

Working Conditions

• Office and gymnasium environment.
• Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions, or other business-related events.
• Occasional after-hours and weekend work or overtime may be required.

Physical Demands:

• Physical activity in the sport of basketball, weekend and evening hours, and required travel.

This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee’s responsibility.
