Job Title: Assistant Cheerleading Coach (Part-Time)
Reporting Structure: Head Cheerleading Coach
Division: Athletics
Job Summary:
The Athletic Department at Bethune Cookman University invites applications for the part-time position of assistant cheerleading coach. This position reports directly to the head cheerleading coach. Planning and organizing all cheerleading events such as practices, games, summer cheer camp, and tryouts. Responsible for assisting the Head Coach with supervision of two cheerleading squads, teaching cheer & dance routines and assisting athletes in learning safe cheer techniques.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Head Coach & Athletic Director or other appropriate administrators.
Works with cheerleaders during practices and meets.
Assists Head Coach with organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages students to participate.
Assists Head Coach with a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.
Works with the Head Coach and Athletic Directors in scheduling facilities for practices and competitions.
Coaches and instructs cheerleaders, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
Observes cheerleaders during events and practices to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
Assists Head coach with monitoring the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met.
Follows established procedures in the event of an injury.
Follows established procedures for supplies and uniforms.
Works with the head coach to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners at the end of the season.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Some experience as a competitive Cheerleader coach at the high school or college level preferred. Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree required. Experience as a competitive cheerleading coach at the high school or college level preferred. Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills related to cheers, cheer-dance, stunting, and choreography.
Preferred Skills, Experience and Education:
Must possess a thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students.
Physical Requirements:
Must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time; physical agility to lift up to 15 pounds; to bend, to stoop, to sit on the floor, to climb stairs, to walk and to reach overhead.
