Long Island University (LIU), an NCAA DI institution, is seeking an Assistant Baseball Coach. The Assistant
Men’s Baseball Coach, reporting to the Head Coach, supports team coaching and student-athlete management.
The individual will be involved in all aspects of the program, including assisting with recruitment and retention
of student athletes, travel responsibly, practice and game preparation, promoting the program both on and off
campus.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist with Coaching: Collaborate with the Head Coach to design and implement practice plans, game
strategies, and player development programs. Provide instruction on hitting, pitching, fielding, and base
running.
• Recruitment: Participate in scouting and recruiting efforts to identify and attract top talent. Build and
maintain relationships with high school coaches, travel ball programs, and prospective student-athletes.
• Game Management: Assist with game day operations, including lineup decisions, in-game coaching,
and post-game analysis. Help manage game strategies and make real-time adjustments.
• Player Development: Mentor and support student-athletes, focusing on their athletic and academic
progress. Conduct individual meetings to discuss performance, goals, and improvement strategies.
• Administrative Duties: Assist with team logistics, including travel arrangements, equipment
management, and budget oversight. Ensure compliance with NCAA regulations and institutional
policies.
• Community Engagement: Represent the baseball program at various events and functions. Engage with
the local community and alumni to promote the program and foster positive relationships.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the strength and conditioning staff, athletic trainers, and academic
advisors to ensure a comprehensive support system for student-athletes.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Physical Education, or a related field; Master’s degree
preferred.
• Minimum of 1-2 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level or higher, with a proven track
record of success.
• Strong knowledge of baseball techniques, strategies, and trends.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively with student-athletes, staff, and administration.
• Commitment to adhering to NCAA regulations and LIU’s mission and values.
• Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by the demands of
the sport.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Two-to-Four years of full-time experience working in collegiate or professional Athletics.
