The University of Rochester is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Debate Coach. This is an academic-year position including salary, tuition and health benefits. Baccalaureate degree or equivalent and previous experience. Candidates should possess good organizational, interpersonal communication, and basic computer skills. Responsibilities include assisting the director of forensics with the administration and leadership of the Debate Program by adhering to rules and regulations associated with World Universities Debating, Cross Examination Debating, Civic Debating, and follows all appropriate rules and regulations for University team travel. In a self-directed environment, teaches basic and advanced skills of college debate, preparing students for practices and tournament competition through performance review and classroom instruction. Uses teaching and practice methods consistent with team philosophy. Reviews, on a regular basis, overall team strategies and practice plan with Director of Forensics and other coaches. Exchanges feedback with other coaches on teaching techniques and coaching strategies. Performs research as necessary in preparation for competitions. Performs administrative tasks as necessary, such as expense reports and arranging travel. Contributes to and participates in team activities on campus, as well as in the wider community and region. Uses independent judgment and consultation with Director of Forensics in following necessary and prudent safety procedures, protecting health and welfare of students while traveling. Continues professional growth through involvement in national and international debate associations and educational activities. Lastly, other administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Forensics.
