To support through Esports coaching, training, or education of athletes/campus throughout the University and local community. This position shall have a strong working knowledge and understanding of all applicable tournaments, organizations, and governing body rules and regulations regarding compliance issues.
This position is a full-time, in-person position, based at our Esports Arena.
Boise State’s dynamic Esports program seamlessly integrates on-screen gameplay with off-screen activities, fostering critical thinking and active, and social engagement. In a nurturing and encouraging setting, Boise State Esports empowers young gamers to cultivate healthy gaming habits while honing their skills in teamwork, leadership, collaboration, and trust-building—equipping them to become the trailblazers of the next gaming generation.
Boise State Esports has won four national championships, 11 Mountain West Championships, 23 conference titles and boasts 1,305 program wins.
Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees.
60 % of Time the Assistant Coach will:
● Plan, organize and deliver an appropriate range of Esports activities
● Design training activities for individuals and teams
● Teach relevant skills, tactics, and sports techniques
● Monitor and assess the performance of individuals, or groups to make improvements or take corrective action.
● Develop team and individual strategies to have the greatest chance of winning within the Esports/game, through on-court/field teaching and video instruction
● Travel to events and evaluate potential student-athlete talent, correspond with all prospects via email, phone. fact to face conversations, etc.
● Complete all necessary compliance and institutional documentation as required
35% of the time:
● Promote the program to the public including: media, donors, the University community and the general public to increase visibility and revenue for the program
● Plan, organize and execute travel arrangements
● Assist with sports promotion/development
5% Perform other duties as assigned.
● Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation
●Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
●Ability to work as a team member
●This position shall have a strong working knowledge and understanding of all NACE -rules and regulations regarding compliance issues
●Extensive knowledge of individual and team skills with the ability to teach these skills
●Ability to evaluate and compare athletic talent for potential growth and development of student- athletes. Maintain correspondence with a large number of prospects: email. letters, phone, Discord, and social media
●Establish and monitor an academic system that ensures academic success for the student- athlete
●Possess a high level of communication skills with student- athletes, prospective student- athletes, their coaches, counselors, parents and boosters in the community
●Develop the Esports/game community in the areas of support and fundraising
● Bachelor's degree OR equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education performing related work
● Valid Driver's license. Upon hire, a NACE Coaches certification and 15 passenger van driving certification is required.
