To participate as part of a decision making team (coaching staff) under the direction of the head coach in planning, coaching, recruiting, administering, and promoting the field hockey program within
NCAA
, Ivy League, and institutional standards. The Assistant Coach plays a critical role in achieving the overall goals of the field hockey program by providing important recommendations, suggestions and decisions regarding game strategies, line-ups, priority listing of recruits, etc. as well as offering initiative and independent judgment (e.g., in providing coaching instruction, evaluating and communicating with prospective recruits and their parents, and representing the field hockey program to constituents).
We are looking to fill 2 Assistant Coaching positions and will begin reviewing applications in January 2025. Ideally, the candidate would start late-February or early-March. A successful candidate for the assistant field hockey coach position would possess the following attributes:
Detail-oriented
: Meticulous in their approach, paying attention to technical details on and off the field.
Trustworthy
: Reliable, dependable, and committed to the team’s success, not just their own.
Collaborative
: A team player, valuing input from others and seeking help when needed.
Passionate
: Enthusiastic about the sport, excited to be part of the team, and eager to learn and grow.
Self-starter
: Proactive, identifying areas for improvement and developing solutions without waiting for direction.
Tenacious
: Self-assured in their opinions, ideas, and coaching style, willing to speak up and share their thoughts.
They would possess technical and tactical expertise, understand the total approach to the game and able to identify details that can help players improve. They would recognize and challenge behaviors that don’t align with the team’s culture and take initiative to make a positive impact during practice.
In summary, a successful candidate would be a dedicated, detail-oriented, and passionate individual who is committed to the team’s success and willing to take initiative to make a positive impact.
