Assistant Coach - Field Hockey (part-time, non-benefited, exempt)
THE DEPARTMENT
It is the mission of the Department of Athletics and Recreation at Bridgewater State University to provide varsity, intramural, club and recreational activities to address the needs, interests and capabilities of our students, faculty and staff. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: In collaboration with the head coach and athletic administrative staff, the assistant coach plans practices to teach, encourage and develop student-athlete skills and game techniques. Assists the head coach in the organization and administration of all aspects of the intercollegiate field hockey program.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Head Coach – Field Hockey
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervision of student personnel
WORK SCHEDULE:
Hours/Week: varies
This temporary appointment is of a limited duration to meet a special need in the Department of Athletics and Recreation.
This is a non-benefitted, temporary position with no guarantee of continued employment.

CORE DUTIES:
● Assist the head coach in teaching skills and strategies for field hockey in the traditional and non-traditional seasons
● Coach field hockey team members individually and in groups, and demonstrate appropriate game techniques
● Plan and direct team practices to encourage and develop student-athlete skills and game techniques
● Develop and recommend strategy, teach theoretical skills and position assignments
● Coordinate year-round instruction with players in accordance with University, Conference and NCAA bylaws and regulations
● Monitor and oversee the academic development of field hockey student-athletes, ensuring academic progress to graduation
● With appropriate certification from a national recognized governing body, develop in field hockey student-athletes an understanding of proper sports nutrition, personal health and safe strength development
● Create a positive and healthy team culture that encourages learning and development
● Additional support duties as assigned by Head Coach including assisting in
● Develop and implement community service learning programs
● Organize and direct a comprehensive student-athlete support program including promotion of the program, leadership development and student-athlete motivation through programs such as Peer Mentors, Captain’s Council and SAAC
● Develop and implement a comprehensive recruiting plan
● Fundraising and alumni relations
● Adhere to and support all rules, conditions and regulations as set forth by Bridgewater State University, Conference affiliations and the National Collegiate Athletic Association pertaining to all aspects of the team’s management.
● Performs other related duties as assigned
● Bachelor’s degree required or relevant coaching and/or playing experience
● Successful completion of the NCAA Division III Rules Test for Coaches by the 2nd full week of the playing and practice season
● Strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences (i.e., students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, administration and community)
● Current certification in First Aid / CPR (AED)
●Ability to work evening, weekends, and holidays as playing and practice season schedule dictates.
● Ability to lift 25 lbs. with appropriate accommodation
● Experience with FrontRush recruiting database management preferred
Valid U.S. driver’s license preferred
