Job Description

Summary of Responsibilities : Assists the head coach of a sport with overall management, with the main responsibility being the teaching of student athletes in games, practices, and film sessions.  Similarly, the assistant coach is responsible for helping the head coach to develop a consistently competitive program through teaching of student-athletes, in which the team can contend for conference championships on a regular basis.  In addition to instructing student athletes in how to perform their sport, the Assistant Coach will also provide instruction on physical health and well-being, team concepts, and safety.  This person will help the head coach in the recruitment and retention of a full roster of players, as well as assist admissions in recruiting prospective students who express interest in participating in varsity sports.  The assistant coach will also mentor student athletes to the end that they grow athletically, academically, and spiritually throughout their college experience.  Additional responsibilities will include retention, counseling, and performing other necessary activities related to intercollegiate athletic competitions.   

 

 

 

Essential Responsibilities : (These essential responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.)

  1. Coach aspects of the assigned sport to include but not limited to: 

    1. Maintains up-do-date knowledge of, and compliance with, Geneva College, NCAA Division III, and PAC rules and regulations.
    2. The Defensive Coordinator helps prepare and execute defensive game plan through play calling and in-game adjustments on game day. 
    3. Assists in helping the head coach conduct practices that instruct student-athletes in game strategies and techniques of the sport specifically related to defensive play. 
    4. Assess players’ skills during practices and competitions and provide corrections and instruction to improve players’ skills and overall performance.
