Reporting to the Director of Athletics and Swim & Dive Head Coach, the position is responsible for performing coaching duties and assisting the Head Coach in the management and administration of the sports program in adherence to the policies, rules and regulations of the University, National Collegiate Athletic Association (
NCAA
) and Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (
SCIAC
). The position is charged with the promotion of the Cal Lutheran Masters Swim program, with an emphasis on recruitment and retention to the Cal Lutheran Masters Swim program.
Serves as an assistant coach for the intercollegiate swim and dive program; assists in coaching during athletic events; coaches scheduled practice and workout sessions; assists in the development of practice and game plans; coaches team members, individually and in groups; demonstrates game techniques; performs film review, analysis, and exchange; performs other assistant coaching duties as assigned. Recruits academically and athletically qualified student-athletes to meet the University’s admission standards and enrollment goals. Attends high school and community college swim and dive events; works collaboratively with staff to maximize recruiting E

Serves as a designated game manager and on-site host/liaison to include (but is not limited to) duties such as: opening/securing visiting locker rooms; working with game officials; set-up; crowd control; greeting participating teams coaches, and officials; scheduling,

Assist in California Lutheran University’s numerous sports camps, including (but not limited to): tracking payments; scheduling events and arrangements; coordinating marketing efforts to promote summer camps. E
Promotes the athletic program and specific sports through community events, public speaking, fundraising, and marketing; demonstrates community involvement through active leadership and engagement to include: participation in team-based community service projects; encouragement of student-athlete participation in mentoring; and participation in other service programs. E Provides general counsel, guidance, and inspiration to students regarding their overall success; promotes good sportsmanship. E
Operates a vehicle to conduct work as needed. E Actively works to secure and manage masters swim membership to generate additional funds; effectively communicates with all constituencies, including masters swim coaches and masters swim members, Department staff, and other campus departments; Works collaboratively with the college office charged with master’s swim billing, collection and memberships
Coaches one hour a week in the master’s swim program.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes.
Maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with University,

rules and regulations.
Objectively evaluate physical skills in the areas of physical potential and mental capability for intercollegiate athletics.
Effectively teach fundamentals, skills, regulations, events details and strategies during preparation and practice sessions.
Provide effective leadership to student- athletes to encourage both successful academic development and competitive performance.
Design and implement recruitment plan for adult swimmers to become members of the Cal Lutheran Masters Swim Team to empower adults to improve their lives through swim
Work within a team-oriented philosophy.
Lift moderately heavy equipment and materials.
Provide a safe environment for students, athletes, visitors and other constituents.
Analyze situations and adopt an effective course of action.

Any combination equivalent to: A Bachelor’s degree and two year of demonstrated success as a coach of an Intercollegiate Swim & Dive program, with recruitment experience, graduate assistant experience accepted
A Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Management, or related field
Master’s Degree
Expertise and experience in Athletics Administration

A proven ability to recruit quality student-athletes, primarily from the Southern California area
Valid California driver’s license.
Class B endorsed
CDL
License, insurance coverage (if driving own vehicle) or be insurable.
Possession of or ability to obtain
CPR
(cardiopulmonary resuscitation),
AED
(automated external defibrillator) and First Aid certifications within 90 days of employment.
Ability to work flexible hours with frequent evenings and weekends is required.
Travel is required.
